Default D-1 procharger or go with a 402??????

I'm stuck between going with a forged 346 w/afr heads or going with 402 w/afr heads. I would appreciate any opinions regarding both setups...I would like the setup to be streetable yet have around 600rwhp/550rwtq.

BOTH!

I would prob go with the 402 because I tend to like NA motors better, but the procharger would give you more reliable hp.

Procharger.

Way more power at all rpm's and you can boost as much as your set-up can handle.

Put some forged rods and pistons in your stock block with the factory crank and you can do 550+ rwhp all day long.

Boost it. I only wish I could afford the blower route right now.

i dont know...a 402 with a set of ETP 225cc heads would be mean but a forged 346 with a D1 would be more streetable.

Hmm, it looks to me that you are asking which engine displacement would be the way to go with an ATI ProCharger. If that is the case, more cubic inches almost always bring along more horsepower and torque, but you can get into a situation where the supercharger can't supply the boost you want to achieve due to the larger cubic inches that the blower has to fill. (whew, can I say all of that in one sentence?) If 600 rwhp is your goal, I would suggest going with the 346 block with a 4.00 stroke crankshaft, giving you a 382ci displacement. The D-1SC will easily handle supplying you the rwhp you are looking for, and then some. Bob

Since I went the 402 route, my opinion is biased. I want more power, but I don't want to push it so hard it blows up. So more cubes is the simple answer. I don't have the blower on yet (going no now) but I picked up 40hp & 80tq (@ the engine) over my previous setup, and I'm only running 9.3:1 compression.

My plan is to start off with my P-1SC on there & then get it rebuilt into a D series. I'll probably only hit 550rwhp, because I have 27% driveline loss, but the setup should run for a long time. 1 - it's a forged iron block, & 2 I'm not pushing it to it's limit. True, I could get more out of it, but reliability is important to me too.
