procharged ls1,valve spring question

Default procharged ls1,valve spring question

I have an 04 gto with a d1sc running 8 psi boost. I still have the stock springs with 9500 miles on them. The motor really revs quick and I hit the rev limiter often as I do drive this car hard. Should I upgrade my springs and pushrods,or do you think I should wait till I do a cam or possibly heads. The heads and cam are further down the road, year or two. My concern is that I may be getting possible valve float because of the boost and high rpm(stock rev limiter) which could be costing me some power at the track. I`m shhotinf for 11`s,getting close(12.10@117.2) 4040 lb race weight.What do you all think? Oh,I am considering the comp 918 `s with titanium retainers.

comp 918's and chromoly pushrods should have been in the same box w/ the supercharger..... for sure get those on asap, it dosent take much at all to bend and snap a stock pushrod and the springs are very weak as well....

I had Bob at epp install the procharger and do tuning.I dont think they are included with the gto kit.It wasnt on the invoice or parts list.As far as I know,my motor has never even been opened up. Just fluiddampener,and 42 lb injectors.

yeah... he is just saying it is a a really good upgrade that compliments the supercharger well.., we have 918's in stock and could blast them on in a couple of hours if you wanna cruze down!!!
Lets get that thing in the 11,s

I`ll look you guys up when I get the springs ,retainers and pushrods. I`ll install them myself though,It`ll be a hell of a lot easier on the gto than in the trans am,those springs and retainers on number 8 cylinder were a bitch.Hey Brent,if I pull the balancer to do a cam swap do I have to redrill and repin the crank and balancer? Or can I reuse the same spot with a new pin? And if I have to redrill,where do I get the kit or specs on what size hole and pin to use?

Throw a set of 02 Z06 valvesprings on there and you will be fine. I ran stock pushrods up to 6700rpm just fine with an '01 Z06 cam and '02 Z06 springs and it seemed to work OK..

give me a call at work and i will measure a pin, you will not have to redrill. The pin acts just like a "key" In the new balancer. It is not bored through both the balancer and crank,It is only bored through the crank

I'd at least do Z06 springs, you are probably getting some valve float.

I said at least Z06 springs. I would run 918 springs personally.

I'm running 977 springs now with my setup, look at the specs on those.

I had 918s on my black camaro with a P1SC with stock cam/pushrods, really doesnt matter much as long as they arent stock LS1. I have seen new sets of LS6 springs sell for like 50.00 and thats why I would use them. 918s arent very expensive either though I guess..

speaking from experience as someone whose snapped and bent a few pushrods.....theyre too cheap of an insurance to not get.Pushrods and Springs will only run you a couple hundred bucks and help save your motor and youll be able to rev higher as well.

Thanks for all the answers guys.I ordered the texas speed ls6 heads that they now have on sale for 849.I am going to install those heads on my trans am ,swap the 918 springs and tit retainers that are on the t/a now onto the new heads,and install the ls6 springs from the ls6 heads onto the gto.That will do until I cam the gto since its still has a stock cam and rev limiter. That should make BOTH cars faster. Sort of on a budget right now .
