You lose a little more power through the 9 inch, but for a 9 second car it would be my first choice. For a 9 sec car I would go with the Moser 9 inch with a spool. If you added in an aluminum center section, which is a $130.00 option, if keeps the 9 inch close to the same weight as the Moser 12 bolt. Bob

Even for my 12 second car I chose 9" all the way. Much better strength, much better gear selection, more posi choices. A little more weight, and a little loss of power is a small price to pay for a bullet proof rear.

Depending on how they are set up they can be pretty close. A poorly set up 12bolt will loose almost as much as a perfectly set up 9in. The difference is that the 9in pinion gear placement is more for strength than power through.

A 9" weighs less than a 12 bolt

For a single digit car, I'd definately go 9". You do lose a bit more but a properly set-up one is bulletproof.

after heads, cam, and whatever else it takes to reach 500rwhp, im going to need something.. its full weight and mostly for street use, may see track occasionally like couple times a year.. also m6.. is there a better rear for that choice, and ease of installation is important since its my DD... i read a few posts before that said 12 bolts were better for autos and 9" for m6.. help?

The pinion twice! Moser said it was setup or something I did, The first setup came from them, the second a very reputable shop, who has the rear now. I have had it six months and made 2 passes on the first set of gears with about 310 hp to the wheels with ET streets at 2500 rpm launch, it broke, Then Sunday with ET streets, Meclod twin disk, Chromely driveshaft from sphon for the 12 bolt, Tubular torque arm, Tubular LCA's, LS6 Intake, MAC MID Lenghts, exhaust and a 75 shot activated at 3600 rpm It broke again on a 2500 RPM dump. Moser didn't seem to care.

If you are taking pinion teeth off then the set up is wrong or the pinion to differential centerline was not machined correctly from Moser. I had heard the same issue from a different member and he sold his 12 bolt on Ebay and let me build a 9" for him. See the testimonial in my members rides section.
