The Mufflex Bump Stop Hanger
Hey guys, as some of you know I just got my headers and ORY installed and of course I have Y-Pipe banging on the drivers side, basically what I want to know is will the Mufflex bump stop hanger definetely fix it ? I dont want to spend 40$ on that stupid looking thing if it wont work...
I KNOW poly motor mounts are the right way to fix it , but I really don't want it to come to that.
Also how exactly does that mufflex thing mount ??
Thanks as always guys...

I dont mean to sound like a cheapskate but that just seems a little steep for that thing, are there any other DIY type of solutions to this ?
Don't get me wrong I am willing to spend the money for this thing to fix the problem but I would rather try something more economical first

well I'm in the same boat as u are but it's the passenger side that's slappin from my Kooks LT's and catted Y. $40 seems steep but if u go to a exhaust shop they might charge u the same in parts/labor, maybe not. I'd check around with ur local shops and see what they would charge u to do that then decide what ur gonna do.
I'm going to have a local exhaust shop put on my new custom catback and while they are doing that I'll have them put hangers on both sides of my Y pipe.

Sorry if this is hijacking the thread, but I've always wondered if these things were safe. The y-pipe is banging because the engine is torqueing in relation to the frame, taking the exhaust with it. Stiffer motor mounts are an effective way to stop this, but it seems to me that trying to limit the engine's motion by fixing the exhaust in place would at the very least tear up the exhaust system, and at the most snap bolts, elongate header mounting holes, etc.
Does anyone know anything about this?

Seems to me that by dampening the rattle down the line you arent really hurting that much

Why buy a bump stop hanger when you can get your local exhaust shop to make one and weld it up for a lot cheaper than $40? All it takes is a rubber exhaust mount with the exhaust hanger put through it and welded to the y-pipe where it's hitting the floorpan. I've had it like this on my car for 3 years now, and it fixed all of my y-pipe banging against the floorpan problems.

heating up my pacesetter y pipe and slightly bending solved that problem.
i dont see how it wouldnt fix youre problem being we have the same exhaust.

Basically imagine it this way, imagine the exhuast stop fixes the exhuast so it is completely still in relationship to the frame/body. Now imagine the engine twists in relationship to the frame/body when you rev it. This is in effect like unscrewing the lid of a jar. I'm wondering if this isn't bad for the exhaust system and heads.
