Help me pick a new car?
I'm on snowbird status waiting for my WOC class to start, so help me pick a car. My main concern is I need somthing that is fun to drive, must be a stick, and it must be reliable, I'm thinking some what classy, and not too flashy. looking to spend 15-27k. Needs to have a sweet sounding exhaust. Keep in mind I'm 6-4, so leg room is a concern as well.
along the lines of
97-00 C5 vette.
04 GTO
LS1 F-body. Hard to find low miles well kept for a resonable price.
Mustang GT.
350Z
RX8
S2000
Z4
I'd like to hear any oppinions any of you have on the matter. Keeping in mind I will not be selling the turbo v6, just looking for a sweet daily driver. Thanks

Axe everything but the vette, gto, or f-body. then just look for a good deal. If you really have 15-27K to spend, go for the vette. You wont be dissapointed. Or, you could find a decent f-body for around 15K and put some serious mods on it with the money left over.

First choice should be a C5 Vette, then an Fbody. You can easily get a low mileage very clean C5 for $22 - $27K and a very clean and low mileage Fbody for $17 - $27K. I personally don't like Mustangs, the 04 GTO's, RX8, or the S2000's. The Z4 and 350Z would be my last two choices after the Vette or Fbody.

Go with the Vette or the GTO. Both are much nicer vehicles than an F-body. At 6'4" you might be a little cramped in the Vette though. If your budget is $15-$27k you can just about swing an 01-02 Z06. I LOVE LS1 F-bodies, and I owned a brand new 99 Trans Am, so no biased here, just the cold hard truth. If you never need to take people in your car, I would opt for the Vette. If having a back seat is important , the GTO is the car for you.

i would personally go for a GTO or if u have that much to spend get a C5Z06, more bang for the buck. there out there and there not as expensive as u would think, im always looking and searching for cars and iv seen them for 20k-27k with not a whole lot of miles.just my .02 cents

These the ones I wouldn't get:
S2000 (small and no low end power...sweet sounding exhaust NO)
rx8 (alright, but not enough motor and no torque)
Z4 (small again...sporty enough?)
OK cars:
Mustang (it is a ford but has huge aftermarket support)
350z (pretty impressive for a v6, but not real easy to get more power without big $)
Pretty good Choices:
GTO (like the sleeper body style, but not the best chassis and quite heavy)
F-Body(I have one so I'm biased...not sure style is "classy" like you want)
C5 (good choice but insurance would be high)
Maybe you could swing a 03-04 sc cobra?

The Vette seems like the best choice, but if you want an import an STi '05 or VW R32 '04 would run you the same price. You should check out RacingFlix's audi S4 with 500hp (they only paid $20,000 with car).

As far as acceleration, the S2000, RX8, Z4 and pre-05 Mustang GTs, are pretty slow. To get serious acceleration out of the S2K and RX8 youll have to keep your revs as high as possible, IMO peaky engines are very annoying.
But, the S2K, RX8 and Z4 will handle better(and have better chassis feel) than the GT, F-body and probably GTO.
I personally would go with the Corvette, best of both worlds, great handling and acceleration.

This is from somebody who owns both and has a policy on both, not just getting random internet quotes from daddy's computer...

Actually, you got this exactly ***-backwards.
Prices do almost invariably drop going from an F-body to a Corvette (they did for me also when I sold my '99 SS), but it's because F-bodies are wrecked at a frighteningly high rate by young, aggressive and/or inexperienced drivers.
The fact is, F-bodies have been, since they were first released, some of the very highest cars to insure. Stack them up against almost any other car on the planet, not just the Corvette, and you'll find their premiums will be higher. This has nothing to do with who does or doesn't drive C5s.

I can pull LOTS more if you want if you still feel like arguing. I would have gotten them from this site, but this site's search button is jacked up.
and finally speaking from personal experience...
99 Trans Am: $430/month at age 16-20
02 Corvette Z06: $140/month age 22
No wrecks or claims ever, no tickets. Same deductibles and coverage through the same company.
____
Here's a couple more just incase...

It was a plesent suprise and I thought it was a mistake but all I can figure is that ...and I hate to say it, since the last guy got flamed, but Vette owners tend to be more mature and I am thinking less prone to accidents.

for an overall excellent car for class, comfort, power, and sweet sounding exhaust I would go with a GTO, or a Corvette. The GTO's may not be the hottest, most muscular looking car on the road, but they definately have the most kick-*** interior, comfortable ride, and build quality. And of course the corvette is very classy, fast, agressive looking yada, yada, yada. GTO or Corvette is your best bet.
