Default MAFT gains

I was thinking of picking up an electric a/f guage and a maft since the car seems to be running a bit rich (low gas mileage, slightly strong exhaust smell). Was wondering how much power can usually be found by leaning out a basically stock car. Right now my 98 t/a just has a lid, cutout, shifter, and subframes. Going to do the free mods soon and eventually will be putting in some longtubes. I figure I'll need to play around with the a/f after the longtubes anyway so I might as well pick up the maft now...

There was a recent post where someone said their PCM adjusted completely to a set of long tubes after a couple weeks of driving. These cars run pretty lean with the stock tuning IMHO. Sure you could lean it out a little more, but then you would have no margin of safety. I'd leave the stock tuning alone unless you change the cam or put a blower on it.

you can pick up 0-15 hp, most of the time its 5-8.

An electric A/F gauge will tell you nothing, they look cool though

A/F guage is a light show. A-tap the LTFTs or run a wideband O2 sensor with a chassis dyno. Or better yet, all of the above ('cept the A/F guage <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="gr_images/icons/tongue.gif" /> ). That's how to tune the A/F
