Has any of you heard about the "nano technology" paint Mercedes uses?
My mom has 05 Mercedes, and I spend some time yesterday claying it, getting ready for the Zaino treatment. Considering the car is a year and a half old now, I am amazed by the absence of ANY swirl marks! My mom washes the car quite frequently, at least once or twice a month using chenille wash mitts and the Mr. Clean car wash system. My Z28 came "pre swirled" by the dealer. Her car had been detailed by Mercedes before delivery, and since then has also been washed by the dealer when it went in for service.
If they make that paint in the exact color that my car is, I'd definitely have it repainted with this "nano" system, even if it costs more.
You must really abuse paint and wash your car with some nasty *** rags and cheap, dirty synthetic sponge to scratch this stuff up!
Does anyone know who makes this stuff?

I thought it was BMW but maybe it was Mercedes that has "self healing" paint. If you scratch or scrape it the clear is super elastic even after it's dry so it will fill in any scuffs or scratches as long as they aren't through the entire paint layer. Pretty interesting stuff. Don't know if consumers can buy it yet though.

Well, it is silver, but my buddy has a 99 Z28 that's pewter...and you can see swirls there, you can see swirls in a white car. I am talking about swirls that are so minute that you can only see them in direct sunlight. My mom's car in direct sunlight has no swirls. I have hawkeyes as far as swirls go!

Newer Mercedes paint is called ceramiclear. I guess it could be considered slightly more resistant to marring.
Nissan (or one of them) is actually working on a paint that "heals" itself, but it's not really on the market yet.

Two reasons for your observations, one being what ZaneO said, newer Merecedes use ceramiclear which is a harder clear coat that is more resistant to swirls and two being that its silver and damn near impossible to see swirls in anyway.

My idiot stepmother managed to abuse her limited edition black Mercedes bad enough it was swirled really bad. I was detailing cars at the time so I took it into work and decided to buff it (hey, if I'm gonna pimp the 'Benz, its gotta be clean). I couldn't phase the swirl marks with the buffer. I talked to the head detailer and he told me you really gotta push hard because mercedes have really hard paint. He was literally pushing so hard his feet came off the ground! I was for sure he would burn it, but even with all that pressure it was still swirled. I ended up just polishing it until I filled the marks. Eagle One Wet polish is the **** for black or red cars.
