Default Flexplates 168 tooth or 153?

Why is there a 168 tooth and a 153 tooth flexplate for the LS1?

I found a TCI (168 tooth) and a Hughes (153 tooth). Besides the tooth pattern, what else would be the difference besides $199 compared to $129? Weight maybe?

Thanks,
Kevin

I have a 168 tooth flex plate with my TH400 and it works fine. I am not totally sure what the difference is.

Number of teeth relate to the teeth on your starter only.

That is what I was thinking, but I have yet to see any info on a starter swap while I have been searching for tranny swap information. Does anyone have a Ls1 with a 153 tooth flywheel? As far as I know they are 168.

I believe the Hughes flexplate having 153 teeth is a misprint. I just used one, part #4004, in a 408/4L60E with a TCI converter and all works good. I should have counted the teeth but forgot to. I know it's the same diameter as the stock 168 flexplate.
