Default Converter selection.. interesting results

Well, I was looking for some help on what converter to get (TH400 w/transbrake) and decided to email a few converter companies to see what they thought...

Details on my car:
408 (8:1 compression)
Procharger F1 with 12-15lbs & FMIC
ET Performance 225 heads
Futral cam
Stock ported TB
LS6 intake
Kooks 1 7/8"-2" headers 3.5" collectors, with 3"X-pipe and dual cutouts straight off the headers
Full weight car with little weight reduction (maybe 3700-3800)
4.11 gears
ET Drag 28" tires

My car put down 750 RWHP and 600 ft lbs on Futral's DynoJet dyno on 93 ocatane.

The answers I got back from the converter companies were:
Yank 3800-4000
Fuddle 3600
TCI 4000
Precision 4800

I also emailed Futral to see what he suggested and he said a 4200-4400.

I am pretty certain that I am going to go with Futral's suggestion, I just have not narrowed down which manuf. I should choose.

Does anyone have any comments on the above converters? Any pros or cons? This is mainly a strip car, but I drive on the street every now and then.

Just ordered my new TC with my TH400 and did a lot of research before buying one. Bascially you want a TC to be at 500-700 RPM below the engines RPM at peak torque of the engine. So that means you have to have a dyno of the engine you are running.
One of the best sites I found to explain TC stall speed is:
http://mojave-green.com/stall-speed-htmp
Good luck.

I do not think that will work for my application. I have heard of that, but no one I have talked to has agreed. My peak torque is 600 at about 6200 rpm.

Thanks

Will I not make it through the 1/4 with the 4.11? What about the brand, any pros or cons of any of the above?

Anyone can PM me if they do not want to bring out any issues that may upset the "converter Gods"

I disagree, any converter can beat, just need to find the right one!

Blown408, out of curiousity, why didnt you get ahold of Continental, ATI, Neil Chance (NCRC) or some of the other well known highly respected Non-LS1 focused companies? I think you should just to narrow down your options, or expand them depending on how you look at it.

To be honest, I am new at this and did not know about any of them. I did email ATi, screw them. If they can not answer an email in a week for a potential customer, I will take my business elsewhere.

I have heard a lot of good things about Fuddle, Yank, and Precision, plus they support the site.

You left out 2 other pieces of data:
Where are you shifting at? At what rpm do you get boost?

Too loose a converter and it will stretch costing you power. The stall speed you select should allow the transbrake to get you well into boost but keep it low enough to maintain top end efficency.

3.50s?? Hmmmm. I was thinking 3.90s and no less than 3.73s.

I am shift at 7000-7300. I am making about 10lbs of boost until around 4500 then it starts climbing to around a max boost of 15lbs.

I'd go w/ Chance with that much power and money already into the setup.

So a 4400 would work great. Yank normally rates their converters based upon 346" motors so if they suggested a 4000, it would stall around 4400 behind your motor, maybe a bit higher. I would think the Vig would be too high unless it is custom built to your needs.

I have a vig in my 4l80e that works good. I would check out a lot of companies before making a decision. I have owned a yank, tci and vig and liked all of them for different reasons. All of them held up good.
