leather dash?
im not sure how most of you will feel about this idea... lol, but i think it could be cool and was wondering what others thought or if anyone has ever done this?
i want to make my interior overall look alittle better, and was wondering if anyone's ever had there dash refinished in leather? is there any way at all of making this turn out good? if it does turn out good, do you think it could fit with the rest of the car? i have a 99 firebird and i think if it could be done well it would be nice, but, looking to see what others think.
right now i already have some carbon fiber pieces in the car(came that way), and i have cloth seats. i want to get these seats refinished in leather. (the lighting in the picture is terrible, the carpet and things in the car look nicer in person)
i was thinking basicly black leather seats(or maybe some sort of black/really dark navy blue), and maybe the dash in a REALLY dark navy blue. what do you all think?

I've asked this on many different boards and so far I haven't been able to find anyone who's done it but I think it would look great and as soon as I know it can be done for a reasonable price or even better done myself I'll jump on it.

The dash is a cover I believe. I would imagine that an uppholstery shop would easily be able to leather wrap it if you took it appart. You just want to make sure that top grade thin leather is used and that it is wrapped TIGHT.
Take a look at some top end Porche's when you have a chance.....that should give you a good idea. They have dash's and many other interior components leather wrapped.
The only thing I'm really curious/concerned about is the passenger's side airbag. If it isn't wrapped...it wouldn't look right. BUT....if it is wrapped...would there be any safety issues if it was deployed? I know other cars have leather on airbag stuff....so there's ways around it.
Anyway....just my $.02

i wondered about the air bag too.... maybe if i find a place that has done it before they'd know. mhmm.... i gotta a few projects to do before the dash(wheels, shocks, seats), but, i'll hopefully get to this in the next few weeks. i'll call around at some places and see.
