$500 is insane for just purchasing the pump, but does that include installation (labor)? It depends on his car, but there may be some particularly difficult ones to replace.

Yep...I thought it was going to be difficult being that just about EVERYTHING is difficult to do under the hood on these cars...But it was cake...$165 from Autozone for me.

Seriously....save the $200 and do it yourself. It's not that hard af a job. Anyone half way mechanically inclined can do this. Just disconnect your lid and MAF and get it out of the way. Take off the TB as well as it might give you more room. Take off your belt. Disconnect the hoses connected to the water pump. A 10mm socket and ratchet, and a 10mm wrench to get the 6 bolts out for the pump, replace the gaskets and you're done other then putting everything back on. 2 hr job at most with a beer in between.

its probably not hard at all to change it...but look it this...the water pump itself would cost $155-170 at any given parts dealer...for an extra $30 i can have someone else do it for me saving me 2 hours, energy, and dirty hands...now if i had to pay the $500 originally then yeah i would do it myself and save money but this dude is cool and he will get the GM part and labor for just $200...i dont think its that bad of a deal...

You should be able to find a stock replacement on the local boards for free. Most people go to electric water pumps and throw out the stocker while it is still good. It is about a 1-2 hr job. You could buy an electric H2O pump and istall it yourself for $500.

yeah i think the next time i have to replace something along the lines of a waterpump imma do it myself....i really need to get into my engine and mess around with it...but for the life of me i cant seem to bring myself to doing it...its my daily driver and i have a terrible fear of messing something up to where i cant drive it....i dont know yall i really need to take some mechanic classes or have someone around me who knows what to do so i can learn off them...

Pay someone else to put it on if you don't know what your doing! I bought the water pump for about 165 at Autozone and my son put it on with at radiator at autoshop in high school. Three days later it won't start. Two weeks later it is still in the shop and I've been on here asking for advice!
Good luck!
