2003 BMW M5 vs my Formula...
Just needed to get some feedback. A co-worker, at another branch of the bank, has an '03 M5. Well, a female coworker decided to do some instigating and now I'm getting a little trashtalk from the guy, telling me no matter what type of racing it is, I'll get demolished, and I better be dumping every cent I make into my car to keep it close.
Now, how fast are these cars? He said he GTeched it and went a 12.7 @ 114 but from what I've seen, GTechs arent all that accurate.
I've got a 2000 WS6 Formula M6, Lid, LT's/ORY, LS6 intake, cutout, pro 5.0 with short stick and the free mods. I've also got a set of 3.73's at the house that I havent decided whether or not I'm gonna install them. As is, I figured it would be a pretty good run, but just to be on the safe side, I'm thinking about throwing a 100 shot on the car and having a tune/dyno.
Anybody have any experience with these cars? I know since its an '03 its still a V8, but what should I expect, I really dont plan on losing the race so if need be, im about to drop some more cash.

I know they are fast cars, after talking to the guy, if i lose its not that big of a deal. I have to buy his lunch and put some gas in his car, but I'd really like to drag him pretty good just so I can hang it over his head. I guess I'll be slapping the gears in the car and looking for a tune.

i bet it makes him feel good about himself to talk about how his $90k car is better than your $30k car. guy sounds like a real winner.
but in any case, i feel it would be a driver's race. i looked up the stats on that car, and its a 4000lb car with 400hp. an LS1 car with all the bolt ons is like 430hp-ish at the flywheel and weighs a lot less. is your bolt-on car capeable of running those sub 13s times... yes. but its going to be limited to traction. being a 4-door car, it is heavier than yours, and i think that weight difference might actually be a traction advantage for him. i dunno about how you drive, but i'll say that for me, traction is holding me back a good .4s and my shifting technique is holding me back a little more.
so if you can drive your car better than he can, you have a shot.

Honestly after driving one, I would say the LS1 has the advantage with no spray. Assuming you put in the 3.73's (which you shoudl anyways) and the car is running right, I think you would edge him out. Drop in a cam and show him serious tail lights.

Like everyone else said it really depends how you and the M5 guy drive. Run him from a roll and you should have no problem beating him, just bang the hell out those gears

if its a new m5 it does not have a V-8 at 400hp, it has a v-10 making 500hp... either way they both roll very hard...if its a new model with a v-10 you better get the spary and the 3:73's installed to put him down... my .02

well the GTech are usually within a tenth or two e.t wise but are usually off mph wise. Oh well about that, is his car a 6spd? You dont need to spray your car to beat this guy, you just need to be able to drive your car worth a damn. What tires do you have? If going from a stop Id say get a set of Nittos and have at it and you shouldnt have any problem beating him.

Well my friend had an 2000 Z28 with all the bolt ons and got his *** drug by an M5 on the Beltway. It was my buddies M5 and it had 5 people in it and still cracked his *** at every MPH so all I can say is good luck. Oh, it was an auto camaro by the way if that helps

The M5 is an '03 so its a V8, not the new V10, also its a 6 speed. I dont know how well the guy can drive.
Only reason I havent put in the 3.73's yet is because Im trying to decide if thats steep enough or if I want to go with 4.10's since I'm a M6.
We'll find out in the next couple days, but after doing some reading on an M5 board, it seems like for a stock M5 to break into the 12's is pretty rare. Most of those guys are low 13's at best but it could be because none of them can drive.

if you dont have good tires, get them. Put the gears in since you already have them. 4.10s are pretty high, and 3.73s should be good (plus since you have m6 with 10 bolt I would stick with 3.73s)
If you have the money for 100 shot and setup/tune, go for it. You would have a pretty fast car then.
Practice and practice on the street. If you get nervous you'll mess up, fast shifting practice is key.
and I didnt like reading the part about how you said you would have to pay for his lunch and put gas in his car. If he is talking **** he shouldnt be and you should not be listening to him
