Definitley go. I've gone 1.7s on stock radials and there are folks that have done better. You just can't go up there and expect to dead floor it off the line.
Here's some suggestions - Leave the tire psi at normal setting. Drive around the water box and leave your tires dry. Power brake the car and spin the tires. The goal is to "clean" them, don't worry about trying to heat them. When you are staged and the lights come down you'll be leaving as soon as you see the last yellow bulb come on. You'll want to try and tap the gas peddle and then floor it as quick as you can after that. It's extremely hard to be consistent doing this but if you get it right you'll launch without spinning.
Good luck and have fun.

There's no need to stall the car up. Think about trying to get the car moving before you just floor it. If you quickly push on the gas peddle so it doesn't go much more than 1/4 way down before you stab it to the floor you'll have a better chance of not spinning. If it helps the idea said a different way is to tap, bump, flick or blip the gas peddle and then floor it. It's not a science and may take a few times before you get a clean launch. If you do start to spin it won't just grab on street tires and you'll have to let off and then floor it again as quickly as possible.
Mostly just use your first trip to have fun, learn about the track and meet folks.
