You break it...
Hate to tell ya butt... I took mine off last weekend when I was doing my headers (thought I could slide it in from the top) and I finaly got it out but I broke it.
The way its made its only suposed to go in and then never come out, I olny cracked mine a little and it still works fine, but once you get it out you'll see what I mean.
I just yanked on it and then pryed it out with a flat head screwdriver.
Good luck... you'll need it.

On mine and ones I've taken off for friends, I just put steady pressure on it untill the the little tab bends back on its self. I've done 3 that way and never broke one. I put mine back in when I do oil changes and then pull it back out.
Another way is to pull the valve cover and depress the tab. Even if you break the locking tab it wont hurt anything. The neck screws on and of just like the oil filler cap. From my understanding the tab is there to help keep the neck from turning with the cap when you take the cap off.
I had pics on here a long time ago, but I cant find them.

I made a post about this a while back. I couldnt get it off either so I took the advice of others and just ripped it off. Now I have a K&N breather on it. Works for me.

Does anyone have any pics with it replaced with a breather? I was thinking of doing the same thing. ALso how big of a breather are you running. I have one that i bought for my third gen but never used it so if it will work i would like to do this. Thanks for the help.
