4.10s killing my top end on A4!?!??!
Hey guys, i have some shorty headers, 4.10s, Ram AIR, exhaust and what not *all mods in sig*
I am still running a 14.0, coudl the 4.10s be killin my top end since I have an A4 i would think with the mods i could at least keep up with a stock LS1 but looks like i cant, very sad
with just intake and exhaust i did a 14.0 at 99 so basically after doing Ram Air, chip, new wires/plugs, and 4.10s i run a 14.0 as well?
should i go back to a bigger gear or 3.73s? not sure need input

usually in an A4 3.73's are better for a street/strip duty car, the best way to bring down your time is to put some dr's on and a stall, if it were me i would change to 3.73's but thats your deal, but dr's a stall, and maybe 3.73's and you should drop your ET

3.55 gear isn't available for the f-body 10 bolt. i would say there may be a difference in tracks...especially if they are at a much different altitude. otherwise, the 4.10s would only give you a .1 at the most going from a 3.73. it will take off maybe 1 mph......sine they are already in there, just leave them. In time, you will prolly gain a lil bit in ET and 60'.

I ran 4.10s in my '94 T/A A4. Never ran it back to back at the track to compare but it felt like the top end picked up QUITE a bit from the 3.23s.
With a tune, full exhaust and gears you should be able to hang with an LS1 without problems.... My CAI, LT back exhaust car doesn't have problems.. what's the state of your tune? I see you have new plugs and wires.. how many miles? Optispark ever replaced?
What was your trap speed after the gears? Did you do ANYTHING else to the car besides gears between runs? What were your 60 foots? Entire timeslips would help. What about weather?

This makes no since to me. This is my opinion but the gears dont/arent making you lose power top end. It's where it puts you at in the powerband and your shift points.

exactly. gears won't make u loose top end, they'll only increase it.
Is your computer tuned for the gears? in other words, did you get madz28 to adjust your transmission's shift points for use with the new gears? If not you'll have problems. My **** banged it's head on the rev limiter for days until I got it tuned.

Of course you'll lose some ultra top end speeds, but remember the 4L60 has a .70:1 overdrive so your 4.10's look like a 2.87 in OD. It shouldn't be killing your top end - it should be killing your tires off the line!

He's reffering to top end power. Note he's reffering to the 1/4. The way I see it, you dont get to do super high speeds on the road anyways so top speed mean diddly.

My car was keeping up with LS1's no problem, and that was with a Hypertech Tune, and Pace Setter Mids. You should pick up alot with changing gears. I went from 3.23's to 3.73's and that was a difference. I had the Cam installed at the same time, but the difference in acceleration was very noticible.

Your gears shouldn't mess up your top end power at all - like someone said, they make it easier to get up there. What generally messes up someone's top end is lack of proper breathing - intake/cam/heads/exhaust stuff.
