Where should I start?
I would like to start modding my 2001 Camaro SS and I was thinking of starting with the exhaust first. A buddy of mine that has a z28 said I should start with a stall converter first, with it being a a4. Where would you all begin? Thanks for the advice!

The easiest mods are a lid and a cutout in the exhaust. Cheap and will gain you 10-15 hp. A stall is a great mod for an A4, but you'll end up needing stickier tires to get the car to hook up, and you'll need to add a tranny cooler as well. Throw some longtube headers on it while you're at it. Coated Pacesetters can be found for $400 or under most of the time.

A torque converter should be one of the first mods in any auto IMO. Save up and get around a 3500 or so, don't go lower than 3000 or else you'll regret it. Make sure to get a trans temp gauge and tranny cooler as well. You'll be happy with that and some stickier tires as well. Then move on to bolt-ons like intake and exhaust.

TC should be the very first mod for any auto. As stated by detroitmuscle nothing less than 3500. If you want to hear some exhaust all you need is a cutout until you have enough money for a catback.

You will see more performance out of the converter. It is a good idea to talk to a few sponsors to get a feel for what you really need. The knowledgable ones will ask you about your driving style and what you want out of it, then can give you a legitimate reccomendation on stall and STR. You are looking at about $500-600 for a converter and install, and about $800 for new exhaust parts (which you can easily install yourself). Do both mods, but if you want the "seat of the pants" factor, stall should come first. And please understand, the first real mods on your car is like a hit of heroin...there is no turning back and you will wind up stealing from your grandmother to buy your next part. Happy modding!
