Default LS6 heads on my LS1: port or no......

I have purchased a set of stock LS6 heads w/918 springs and a futral F4 cam to install in my 02 Z28. I have some time before I will install and tune this new setup - so I could have some head work done on these if I think it is worth the bucks - time is not an issue. There is a good machine shop here local to Austin, Tx - PortPros - I know the owner; so I have a place to have the work done, in theory I have the money (depends on what I do and how many pieces are replaced, etc....) so my question is, if given this opportunity what work if any should I consider doing to these heads?
* port intake/exhaust runners
* smooth/work chambers
* 5angle valve job/new oversized valves?
* other?
This is the F4 with 575 lift, 226 duration and 113 lobe separation - so with this cam would it be worth spending any money on head work?
Thanks - stevet

Yes, definately port the heads. You can coax a surprising ammount of power out of your mild cam with proper heads.

I ported mine myself and gained quite a bit of flow in the .200 - .400 lift range with little effort. Up to 40CFM in some areas - bench tested before and after with a Superflow

Good info here guys, thanks - and yes I have purchased for the install:
* new - comp 7.4" hardened puchrods
* used - rollmaster double roller timing chain
* new - ported LS6 oil pump

I will be using my stock rockers/lifters/valves/etc.....
I am looking into prices and it looks like with no parts, just porting and all that goes into that is 1200bucks. Not sure I can afford it..... on the other hand I can get a competition valve job only for 340bucks - I can afford this. Seems like it would make more sence to buy ported heads rather than pay to have them worked......
Thanks for the help guys - much appreciated - stevet
