ive got a 99 TA thats getting a new engine, my warranty company sent a 99 rebuilt motor that my mechanic checked out and said was garbage...metal in the pan....soooo the warranty company decided to send me a 01 ls1...im just wondering what the differences are between the two motors?....intake manifold? egr, air, etc etc

LS6 manifold, slightly better oil distribution, LS6 oil pump, no EGR, and I believe the 01's have 28lb injectors too, I kn ow the 98's and 02's did.

whats the difference on the castings?.....im getting to keep my old engine...the 99 stocker, spun bearings...but everything else is fine....so i come out of this, paying 350 bucks, getting a 01 in the car and a 99 on a jack, warranty company pays out 6400 bucks

853's (99 - 00 heads, although some late 00 got the 241's) flow a little less and are also limited more for port work, avg. gains switching from a straight cast 853 to 241, 8-10 RWHP.

also when i was with my mechanic looking at my engine...there wasnt an AIR pump...do those not come on 99s?

They do, although it is located inside the bumper, i doubt it would have been removed from the car.

duh, didnt think of that....the no egr on that 01 sounds nice though....and that ls6 intake saves me $350....im thinkin about cnc my old heads off the 99 and porting the tb....maybe selling or stroking the block...i havent decided yet

I'd cnc the newer heads, the 853's are alot more limited than the 241's, and building a stroker/back up block is a good idea if you plan on modding up quite a bit. For reference, my heads are just stage II 241's and then I have a tr224 .563 112, and made the power in the sig through a stalled auto, not bad for mild heads.

i see.....ill prolly go with a low stall, a zo6, or cheatr cam, and full exhaust....that should put me easily at 400 rwhp....thats my goal....this new motor will save me a good amount of money with those heads and that manifold.....i just got a cutout that im gonna add to the stuff in my sig....im thinkin 315-320 after that....mechanic said with that old motor and just the lid and tb port, i was making around 295 rwhp becuase of the a4

cheaTR cam and bolt ons you'll break 400, you'll need quite a bit more to do it with the LS6 cam, its not too aggressive, and wont show more than probably 350 with boltons through an A4

i just want it driveable, streetable whatever....i want something that will hold idle and not give me problems...i felt one of those two would be the way to go....i know everything works together...but just to be dumb, headers and straight pipe is about 30hp all together, lid port tb and manifold 20-30, tune 10-15, cam and heads around 50....i think those are pretty conservative numbers, like i said i know they all rely on each other but thats a guess

pump, the 01 is going to be set up for a air pump for emitions, the 99 wont have one, it will not pass a echeck anymore
