Default First time at track with Z06... seems too slow.

I just went to the track for the first time yesterday, and I'm not very happy with the results.

After 6 runs, the best I got was:
60' - 1.987
1/8 ET - 8.118
1/8 MPH - 89.623
1/4 ET - 12.442
1/4 MPH - 113.397

I have a fair amount of track experience (50-60 passes) in F-bodies, and am getting a somewhat decent launch, even on crappier than stock tires.

I used to have a '02 WS6 with only a lid and Nitto drag radials that I managed to get a 12.68 at 110 out of at a different track (similar elevation/temps, though). This car feels WAY faster, but the numbers say it SUCKS.

Any idea what's going on here? Mods are in the sig.

What was the DA? or density altitude for the day? Ive seen a low DA day here in Houston make .4 difference over a terrible hi DA day.

Look at your 60'. Nothing is wrong with your car. It is trapping pretty well. I think that a 1.8 sec. 60' will get you a 12.2 sec. 1/4 mile. Also you must understand that you will run faster around the winter time.

that mph seems very low for a z06 with full exhaust and tune.

i would think that car would trap 112 stock...the ones around here do.

Yeah. The 60' is OK for crappy street tires. Definitely not in DR (or even stock F1 SC) territory. I know there's a lot of improvement to be made there. But I've seen multiple STOCK '02+ Z06s trap higher than my bolt-on/tuning car. NOT right. I came fully expecting 118+ traps and LOW 12s, and that should have been easy to hit in a Z06 with my mods and a sub-2.0 60'. The DA that day couldn't have been over ~1500 feet (80% humidity, mid 70s, ~700 ft elevation). The track was Mountain Park Dragway in KY. It honestly seems like I am 40+ hp lower than I should be. Car was empty, save for 25 pounds of stereo stuff, and I only had 1/4 tank of gas. And I only weigh 180, so that's also not the problem.

Based on the weather & elevation At sea level ya should run 11.9 @ 115.45 which is still keep ya off in MPH

Unfortunately, I don't know. The previous owner did all mods and had it tuned.

Well, I talked to a few of my friends about this, and they believe I might have some bent pushrods. You see, when I bought this car, it has a slight ticking noise that came from the top end on both sides. I had it checked by a local mechanic and he insisted it was just the headers, and since it felt pretty strong and never made BAD noise, I never though about it again. They think the ticking is pushrod slack and I'm losing power due to valves not opening all the way.

Would bent pushrods rob me of enough power to run that slow, make just a little ticking noise, AND never throw a code of any sort?

My stock pushrods were bent and I very rarely went to the track, so I would say its a deffinate possibility. As for 40hp loss Im not sure you would lose that much and not know you had a bent p rod. I think your problem would be much more obvious if you were losing that much hp.

I know what you mean. I believe I'll just have to take a couple hours and move the valve covers/rockers and check them out for myself. If they are good, onto the dyno....

I only have VaraRam CAI and TPIS LT headers on my Z06. Running with street radials, my best time is 11.96@118.92 w/1.911 60' .

When it was bone stock, my best was 12.4@114 but this was during hottest part of the summer with high humidity, DA being well over 2,000.

That's EXACTLY what I mean. I'm missing a TON of power.
Not very happy about it, either.

there is a local guy here with a bolt-on c5 6 spd with a magnacharger, running 6 psi i believe...and he is trapping 118. it appears that a good tune is hard to come by.

I just spent 2 1/2 hours leaning over my damn engine... and all 16 pushrods roll perfectly on a piece of sheet metal. Also, all rockers look & feel great, and all springs/valves look fine.
So... any suggestions? I really don't know what else I can look at.
At this point, I guess I'll just try to hit a dyno before the weekend and see what it's putting down.

That's surprising because I would think he'd trap higher than 118.
