Default How safe are MAF porting mod and EGR mod???

I have printed out the instructions from installuniversity, and they both look rather straight-forward. I would just like some re-assurance.

Thanks, I greatly appreciate it!

You may want to do a search on the MAF porting. Some love it and others have had major problems with it. Mainly depends on if you have a A4 or 6speed car.
From what I have read, the EGR Mod doesn't cause problems.

The reason I question the EGR mod is this comment on installuniversty's site, "Do not be surprised if you see a slight increase in engine temperature (only a few degree's and should only be noticeable using a scan tools such as Auto Tap) because the re-circulated gases (which help cool the cylinders) will have more trouble entering the system as they were intended." Can this be a problem?

Since you have an M6, I wouldn't be overly concerned. My suggestion would be to buy a set of MAF ends. That way you can return the MAF to stock if you aren't pleased with the outcome. The main concern with a ported MAF and an A4 is a reduction in line pressure resulting from undetected air. That in time can lead to tranny problems. You'd only have to watch the Air/Fuel ratio with your M6...as far as I know. A MAFT would take care of that.

I've had the Thunder Racing MAF ends on for a little over a week now. No problems so far.

Can I get a few more opinions on porting the MAF??? I have a M6. Will I need to have the car tuned in any way if I do this mod, or will it self-learn with just a reset of the computer?

BTW, I completed the EGR mod, and everthing went smoothly, thanks <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> .

i bought an SLP 85mm unit; it is calibrated to fool the car into thinking it is a factory size unit...

I found a good increase in power with no problems...it really goes hand-in-hand with other intake mods, however (LS6 intake, ported TB, cold air, air box, smooth pipes, etc.)

...some of the self ported jobs have bad outcomes ....not sure why except it could be there is no recalibration like the SLP units have...

...you should note that intake mods on the LS1 are more cost effective and efficient than exhaust mods....so do these first before headers and cat backs...

If you really think you need it.

I would purchase an aftermarket one and swap them, or just MAF ends. Keep the old one just in case.

MAF 101: The problem with porting the MAF sensor is that you change its calibration. There is a table in the PCM’s memory (the MAF calibration table) that must be correct in order for the PCM to calculate optimal fuel flow. Many have reported that removing the MAF screen improves airflow without upsetting the calibration. This makes sense because the screen is at the front of the MAF. Any actual porting, however, such as removing the partition or installing larger diameter ends, changes the calibration.

The PCM automatically makes corrections, within limits, when some major components, including heads and cam, are modified. The MAF is not one of those components. The MAF is the main component that allows the PCM to correct for other changes. That is why MAF calibration must be correct.
