Did I contaminate my o2 sensors?

Default Did I contaminate my o2 sensors?

I installed some LT's and a short time afterwards I got p1133 and p1153 codes (insuffucient cycling o2 sensors). I'm using stock o2 sensors with 24" extensions. The car has Kooks emission inclusive headers with catted y-pipe FWIW.

I used sensor-safe sealer on the collector joints, some aluminum tape, and band clamps. I wonder if the adhesive from the aluminum tape seaped in there and fouled the sensor, I doubt it.

I also used a dab of anti-seize compound on the threads of the sensors. Was this a bad idea? (I read somewhere that the sensors are grounded through the bung threads.) I wonder if the anti-seize is the contaminant.

I'm also trying to track down a tiny exhaust leak but it's hard to find. It only makes the leak noise under load. It's not a ticking noise, more like a "wheep" type sound, it's hard to describe.

I have a set of Bosch 13111's on hand but I wanted to rule out any other possible source of the problem before I install them. I'd hate to replace good parts, only to be left with the same problem.

Any input or advice would be greatly appreciated.

It's just the greater heat loss in the headers, more
surface area to radiate / shed to air plus more distance
to the sensor, in which to do it. Welcome to the party.

How many miles are on your stock o2's?
I'd put the 13111 o2's in and be done with it

Thanks guys. I suppoose all it is is the lack of enough heat.

This weekend I'll install the 13111's. I might try to fit my old metal spark plug shields over the new o2's. Perhaps that will help the new ones stay hot.

Lately it seems like I'm under that car every weekend

I haven't owned the car since new so I don't know how old the ones on the car are. They are AC Delco so they could be the original part. FWIW the car has 30kmi on it.

BTW, I got the 13111's at Advance auto parts. They offer a one year warranty and I have a feeling I'll be taking full advantage of that. $165 for a pair is not a good deal, but $165 for two pairs or three pairs is! lol

I went ahead and installed the Bosch corvette sensors and a day or two later the codes were back.

Fast forward to now. Still getting insufficient switching codes.

...so these O2 sensors are supposed to reach 600 degrees F? Any way to measuret? Infrared? lol

I've bench tested the sensors and one does seem to be bad. The voltage stays at around 0.600 mV

I guess I'll try to make the parts store honor the warranty.

Delete those codes and be done with it.I chased this issue and used all the brands of
sensors. The final solution was to delete the codes,I now have a lifetime supply of O2
sensors.I watch the switching of the sensors with a scanmaster in the car so I don't
have to drag along a laptop.
