Default Are heads interchangeable

What kind of work has to be done to a 92 or earlier sbc head to make it fit on a 92-97 Lt based block. I was under the impression that it couldnt be done because of the reverse flow cooling design . Also if you did convert the heads what intake would be needed to fit on the heads as I would guess that the intake ports and possibly the bolt pattern is different on the lt1/4 intake than the regular pre 92 sbc heads.
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks
Ron H.

The intake Ports are taller, the intake manifold bolts up differently, the coolant passages are completely different, the holes on the bottom of the head are different.

No they are not and using "refitted" or "updated" heads could make your engine overheat

how bout this if you dont like the engine design of the lt1 then buy somethin else. i get tired of people saying they want ls1 heads or intake manifolds on an lt1. if you like the ls1 get one dont try to mix them it impossible.

I don't think you read his question...He's asking about a 1992 SBC head. The LS1 didn't come out till 1997...

I have a stroked and blown 383 95 Lt-1 motor with AFR heads. And I also have a 2000 Trans am which Im currently doing a LS-2 402 buildup with afr heads and fast 90/90. The reason I asked Is a debate that I got in with someone that said and I quote "every small block chevy part is interchangeable" including old heads and Lt1 based 92-97 motors. I said that the 92-97 lt1 motor are reverse flow cooled motors and older heads were not a bolt on thing that could be done and work properly. He insists that it can be done as a bolt on and work properly.
