Stock 02 SS exhaust questions
Is there any difference between the Z28 and the stock SS exhaust? What is the diameter of the SS exhaust tubing? Is the SS exhaust stainless? Any info would be appreciated.

Re: Stock 02 SS exhaust questions
I don't know that you can say there is a "stock"
SS exhaust. The way it was explained to me when
I bought my '02, SLP (when not under a build
order that was customer specific) had an
"allowance" for options and they just hung on
whatever they felt like. In '02 there were at
least two exhaust options (dual/dual, CME) plus
the option to do nothing at all.
The I-pipe on my car mates up to the stock Y-pipe
at the band clamp, but this point is necked down
to fit; elsewhere, it's larger by about 1/2". I
don't know if the Z/28 I-pipe is this way or not.
The Y-pipe that came stock looked to me to be
some sort of post-factory hack job; I crawled
under a few Z/28s while shopping and the pipe
was all stainless and looked uniform except for
the crush; however, on mine, the driver's side
leg is -not stainless- and fatter than I recall
seeing. The passenger's side leg and the merge
are stainless and factory-quality-appearing.
The welds and pipe on the driver's side look
muffler-shop.
The thing looks to me like somebody tried to
make the driver's side "better". Wierd.

Re: Stock 02 SS exhaust questions
Yes there is a difference between the Z28 exhaust and the SS.
When you ordered an SS, part of the package was the "stock" catback exhaust. On the SS that was a better flowing muffler, new I-pipe and single exhaust tips out each side (not sure of the diameter). On the SS you had 2 optional exhausts. You could get the dual/dual which was worth 7hp or something they claimed. That had 2 dual tips on each side, and then there was also the CME(center mount exhuast). That was actually a dual/dual with the tips relocated to the center of the bumper - same I-pipe and muffler though.
All of them were stainless.

Re: Stock 02 SS exhaust questions
Yeah, I'm not talking about any of the optional SLP exhaust setups, just the standard SS exhaust. So it is stainless? Does anyone know the diameter of the I-pipe? I know the optional SLP dual/dual has a 3" I-pipe.
