Default Paging everyone that has put their battery in the rear of the car

You guys that have relocated your batteries to the rear spare tire area, need your assistance.

1) what did you use as a battery box?
2) What battery did you use? (I am considering moving my current Hawker battery but it might be too small. Might pick up an Optima redtop or something similar.
3) Where did you ground the negative cable? what did you do with the negative terminal at the front of the car.
4) What is the lightest gauge wire I can get away with?
5) If you mounted a kill switch details on how you installed it would be appreciated

Thanks guys, I want to move the battery to the rear to free up some room and weight for something I want to try up front.
Thanks,
Chris

For any given wire gauge you can look up tables that show the wire resistance per foot and estimate the increased loss of amps for the wire length/size.

I don't remember the complete engineering drill but once you look at the tables I think you will see how to do the calculations.

Conventional engineering principles usually add a 50% safety margin but I think I used a 20% extra margin to select 1/0 gauge, which has worked fine for about 1 1/2 years on a street car that uses A/C almost all the time. If you delete the entire safety margin 0/0 gauge (is that the next smaller size?) is correct.

moroso sealed box in t top place, (tried battery in spare tire location/they told me not to come back to the track like that because I couldn't fit a battery box in there)
1/0 car audio wire connected to the positive pin on the drivers fender well. ground same size 1/0 about 24" long mounted to the bolt location from the the t top holder I removed.
flaming river cut off switch with handle coming out by my ws6 logo under the taillight.

the hawker battery may not start the car from the rear very well. I went in k mart, got a scale off the shelf, went to their batteries and weighted them until I got the lightest

I also use the Moroso box in the well. It won't fit in the spare tire area.

I have a 200-watt amp and have never had charging issues. I use an Optima Red top battery and a Moroso kill switch.

I rewired my stuff a bit also. I run the + lead straight to the fuse box terminal in the engine bay. From there, I ran a seperate wire to the alternator/starter. Works fine.

I have been running just fine with 4 gauge wire for nearly two years. If this is inadequate, what would it affect? Can it affect performance? Or just electrical accesories?

Chris ARE 360- Here's an install write-up Chris Endres did on his Z28. I like his disconnect switch!

Reckless- The only thing performance wise that it could effect, is your fuel pump output (might get ugly with your DP system). The higher the voltage that gets to your fuel pump, the more output it will usually have. You might want to look into something like a volt blaster from Ramchargers. That's it's primary function, to increase fuel pump voltage. GN guys use them all the time.

As far as your electrical system goes, if everything is working alright, you should be okay. If a lot of little electrical gremlins pop up though, I'd guess the small guage battery wire would be the culprit.

Don't think that is an issue since I have an external pump running through a relay. My car hasn't had any issues with the setup I use.

I was just wondering if it would affect the ignition is some way, for example power loss due to less electrical power?

Shouldn't be a problem. Your alternator should handle that job, and the coils would ensure you get enough spark.
