Default Which launches harder..camaro w/ 9 inch w/ slicks, or awd EVO

I have a buddy with a 350 whp EVO who is thinking that he is going to win at the track. This has been a **** talking contest for the past few months, and has started to aggravate me. Heres the issue. I broke my 10 bolt last week and am buying a new moser rear end unit tommorrow. Im undecided whether to go with a 9 inch w/ 4.11's or a 12 bolt with 4.11's. Anyway, weve decided that street racing probably wouldnt be the smartest way to do it, so were going to the 1/4 track at Bandimere, which is about 5,500 feet above sea level. So heres my question, will a procharged f body making 380 - 400 corrected WHP beat an EVO with 350 corrected WHP, provided i have weld prostars out back with 26x10x15 mickey thompson et drags and skinnies up front. I will also be getting a new clutch before the race, probably a spec stage 3+. He seems to think he will beat me out of the whole even with the slicks, but i'm pretty sure he cant outlaunch a RWD car with a 9 inch/12bolt and 4.11's with a strong clutch. What do you guys think? My car is a 93 z28 6 speed. Mods in sig.

I have pulled several AWD cars off the line with a stock 10 bolt, M/T ET Drag radials, a Vig 2800, boltons, and 311 rwhp.

Lol I just pulled a bad holeshot on a bottom 13 second Evo last week at the track, running MT drag radials. I had a 1.71 60', he was in the high 1.8 range.

A well setup suspension on slicks, you should easily kill him off the line. Besides when you're pullin' the fronts, what good is AWD?

easily out 60' him. he has to be a pretty good driver to be any faster than high 1.6's in a awd street tire car.

AWD cars dont scare me. most hook hard as hell on the street with teh right driver and tires. at the track, not a problem. lots go 1.6 60' times. but rarely will you find a 1.4 60' time awd car. with ls1 fbodys, thats a dime a dozen

most awd cars i've seen bog pretty bad on a prepped track. i say heat the tires very well, drop the clutch from ~6k and hang on...also hope that you don't snap your driveshaft.

if he hooks, he will more than likely bog...

Track: you win.
Street: might get interesting.
I've got a couple of decently powered AWD cars and they're just nasty on the street. At the track my SI SS will run the same times in the 1/8th mile. The AWD advantage is on an unprepped surface, not at the track.

FYI, these were all on the street. The count is up to 5 AWD cars now, one of which was even gaining on me in top gear but could not catch me before the end of the 1/4 mile (slow shifter). My car 60 fts in the low 1.7s at the track.

EVO's do not 60' like an old school DSM. It takes a LOT of suspension work (coil overs) to get a 1.5 60' out of one of them, where my old Talon did 1.53 regularly on stock type suspension.

You should be able to out launch him and never look back.

Don't even worry if he's on the stocker. Evo's do get interesting once you put a twin-disc clutch in them.....they WILL do 1.5-1.6s on stock suspension.

You may want to consider some suspension mods (lcas, t.a. etc)...and don't think that you are in for any sort of easy win as he probably has a better power to weight ratio.

I'd prefer to see you win so you might get yourself some insurance like a small shot of nitrous.

Exactly. Although stock for stock Evos make more power, the talon/eclipses will 60ft better and usually be faster. My brother's 2nd gen eclipse 60 fts 1.5x all day long on stock suspension.
