Default roller rocker people help?!?!?!?

I finally started my car 2 days ago, had a little incident to it recently, but all has been taken care of.

I'm back to where I was 2 days ago with it running. I set my rockers....but they keep on wanting to go left and right off the valve spring. pushrods are brand new. it there a way to cure this??????

need some help asap. does anyone else have this problem?

Are they guided? They shouldnt do that if they are. Guided rockers should have small guides along the underside of the tip to keep it on the valve. LT1 Motors require them. Thats my best guess.

Doesn't sound like they're adjusted correctly. If you aren't real experienced I recommend letting someone who is do it. I always get my dad to do the valves.

If you installed non self-aligning rockers, then you have to use guideplates. The only ones that work on the LT1 are the GM ones you can get them through Thunder Racing. If you're not sure, then check the part number you have with them as well and they can tell you what you have. Good luck.

what he ^ said exactly. you bought non self alligning rockers yet you dont have guide plates so you have two choices. 1 return those rockers and buy self alligning rockers or 2 pull the heads and install a set of guide plates. i know thise because i did the exact same thing back when i was building my motor.

Just one thing, you don't have to pull the heads to install guideplates, just the rockers and studs. I hope you're not using stock springs with those either!

I had a similar problem too but I do have the self aligning ones. Not sure what my deal was cuz when I found the problem, one of the damn rockers was already getting wear on the body cuz the freakin' machine shop evidently set them up wrong or something. I tried fixing it and it kept jumping off on me too. Finally my dad redid all the valves and that fixed it. I guess I would have had a lot of fun with NSA rockers.

another question. do I have to take the studs all the way out? or an I loosen then up enough to slide the plates in..then torque everything to spec.

Thanks to all of you!!!! this has been a big burden off my shoulders. my car will be fully operational here in a matter of days. I'll let you know what I run. aiming for a 10.5 on motor. I think I'd be able to pull it off. car should weigh close to 2950...with out me of course. I have more mods..but the sig will only allow so much.

im still tryin to learn how to do valves man dont feel bad but dont try and do it and get it wrong, valves have to be the trickiest part of the motor so just take your time and double check everything

The studs have to come out...The guide plates have two holes that two studs thread through, and in turn, locate two pushrods. You'll install 8 guideplates. IIRC, the torque for the studs is 45-50 ft./lbs.

We have had the best luck with Isky adjustable Guide plates. they are NOT for the novice as they need to be carefully set up and then welded

I didnt want to do welding. the GMPP guideplates on Thunder racing are the ones I need then? they are ment for a 90degree V6. they will just bolt right in? setting the rockers are easy..I have done them many times before. I dont have aproblem in that area...this is just my first time with a non-self aligning rocker. thats whay it kinda worried me. the engine itself sounds really strong...so I know I did a great job on it.

thanks for your help.
