Default RIPPER or PRO-5.0 ???

Hey everyone. Just bought a stock 2000 WS6 M6 and just want to go with some bolt-ons to start. Was wondering what everyone's opinions are on the ripper shifter vs. the pro 5.0. Both look quite similar in quality and durability but I want a few opinions from some daily drivers to help make my purchase decision a bit easier. Thanks in advance. P.S. If anyone else wants to throw in other advice about other recommended "must have" bolt-ons, please do so. I'm kind of new to these neck of the woods. Got my mind made up on getting a LM exhaust next month but any help would be awesome. Thanks again. --Matt--

Pro 5.0 all the way!!!! I got an M6 last summer, and got my Pro 5.0 in December, and after I got it, the only thing I was pissed about was that I hadn't gotten it sooner. The factory shifter really sucks. Trust me, you WILL be happy with the Pro 5.0. I haven't driven a Ripper, but run a search and I think you'll find Pro 5.0 to get the best feedback.

Forget them both, get a hurst. I know a few people with the 5.0 and miss shifts or go 1/2/1 or 1/2/3/2, and have driven a few with the shifter and dont like it one bit. I have had a hurst in both my SS and have never had problems with missing a shift. I have dont know about the ripper.

I have the Lou's Short Stick and Pro 5.0 and love it! Just the right height and the shifts can't get much easier.

No experience with the Ripper, but my 5.0 is great! Makes powershifting a breeze!

I've got to go with the Ripper on this one. I have driven cars with both. While the Pro 5.0 is a nice shifter I think the shifts are crisper with the Ripper.

I have a Pro 5.0 in my SS, and I also had them in my '92 Mustang GT, and my '99 Cobra, so I guess I'm a little biased. I can't say much about the Ripper, other than that it's made my B&M, and I have had ZERO luck with their slush-box shifters. They're (automatic shifters) cheaply made, and they either don't work, or they break in a month. I'll NEVER buy another POS shifter from that company again.

The ripper does not have the same on-center feel as the factory hurst. The springs are weaker than the hurst.

The greatest gain is you are losing the rubber isolator from the factory design.

I would put money on buying/fabricating a 'lou's short stick' shifter. The short stick does not have the rubber isolator. The shifter is a metal rod with a pivot point. It is surprisingly simple when you look at it.

The ripper seems ok. I got it because it was about 120-130 delivered. SS shift lever, cool blue anodized Al base. It gave me a reason to fix the transmission fluid leak where the shifter and transmission mate.

If I had to do it again I would have done the short stick modification.

another vote for the pro 5.0. I just cut off about 1.5" rather than spending more on LSS.

WOW!! I can't thank you guys enough for all the replys. Didn't think I'd get so many responses. Looks like Pro 5.0 is the winner to most. I was leaning that way and this just strengthens my hunches. Will probably hook it up with the Pro 5.0 / LSS combo from Afterthoughts. Thanks a million and I look forward to everyones input with future decisions. Thanks again. --Matt--

Now that you're convinced of the Pro 5.0, now do a search and see how many noise problems folks have had with them.

Havne't heard a noise complaint on the B&M.

I think the SLP shifter is closer and more precise then my Pro 5.0.

I like my Pro 5.0 but it gets so much fan mail I had to let you know there are folks out there that think it's a good shifter, just not the greatest

I currently have a Pro 5.0 shifter and i like it a lot, but coming from a mustang my all time FAVORITE shifter on the PLANET is the Steeda Tri-AX, that thing is sweet, I havn't got around to putting one on the TA yet but I will one day. I've had a Ripper, Pro 5.0, Hurst, and a Steeda Tri-AX and I like it the best.
