Default why is it so bad?

Why does everyone say the 4L60 is a junk trans? Is there a particular problem with it? Does someone build a race version of it? Thanks.

The are some issues with the 4l60e. We at Finish Line Transmissions(FLT) address them with our hp units. Go to our web page and view the GM HIGH TECH article and it shows you some of the issues and corrections. We are located in Wood Dale Illinois not to far from you. www.finishlinetrans.com. We build these units every day and currently are working on the online store for you guy's that like to do it yourself. Thank you for your time, Vince.

At this point no because I have not tested one yet. I really don't know if this type of unit is going to hold up with a break. But we will see.

I hear FLT builds a great 4l60e. ALOT of guys are running his transmissions around here and are satisfied. I run a Rock-On myself (4l60e) and it's been great so far. I'm not making any insane amount of power numbers for sure, but my stocker took a dump at only 25000 so I must be doing something wrong

If your going to try a 4L60E then by all means have a reputable builder like FLT or ROCK ON build it.
I went through 2 60Es, one supposedly "built" locally and it lasted 26k.
I now have a Rossler TH400 but I beat the crap outta transmissions, manually upshifting and downshifting, manually dropping gears and punching it from a roll........all kinds of nasty things. so the RMVB TH400 worked out much better for me. I can do pretty much whatever I want (short of abusing it) and it just takes it and laughs at me.
