Default EGR and Air Pump

Does anybody have any directions on how to get rid of these? I was looking at them on the motor but I wasn't sure. If anybody knows, any help is appreciated. Thanks.

The AIR pump is really easy. Just pull all the hoses from the engine bay, and then go under the car, drivers side - right in front of the wheel. Remove the plastic covering and you can see the air pump. It is held up by a few bolts, remove those and pull the pump and remaining hoses out through the bottom. Then plug up the AIR holes on your headers/manifolds with a block off plate.

For the EGR - remove the egr from the side of the head on the passenger side, then remove the piping associated with it. Use block off plates for the manifold and intake - or you can use a freeze plug for the manifold.

Not sure if he still has some, or sells them... but I ordered the blockoff plates from 'Mighty Mouse' deezuns@attbi.com for $14.50 shipped to my door. I paypaled him at night, and he mailed the next day <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> They are high quality thick plates, and I have had no prob with them. Then I bought a freeze plug from pep boys for 3 bucks.

Is your sole reason for removing them for aesthetics?

If not there is absolutely ZERO, NADA, ZIP performance gain to be had from removing them! And in many cases, your driveability and fuel economy suffers in the process.

Get the block off plates from Thunder. I tried making my own <img border="0" alt="[bang head]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_banghead.gif" /> Ended up buying them from Thunder 30.00

Is it true on all vehicles that removing the AIR system will NOT set a code in the PCM? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" /> I thought that it would since it is emissions related...

I took mine off. you need to have edit or some sort of device that deletes or blocks codes from coming up. you should keep the AIR if you have cats, since its there to help them warm up (correct me if im wrong), so you should keep it if you plan on, or are already running cats. other than that, they are very easy to remove, just a few bolts on each unit. then get what everyone else said, or be like me and shove some metal epoxy in the holes <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" /> ; no probs yet. plus it cuts about 10 or 15 lbs out of the car <img border="0" alt="[burn out]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_burnout.gif" />

You are correct Frank. They inject fresh air into the exhaust stream to help heat up the cats.

when i removed my EGR/AIR, it was pretty simple
i bought used MAC's with custom (cheap) blockoffs on the headers, and for the intake manifold EGR hole, i used a GM part.....it was made for the H2 Hummers i believe
the part number is "12558346"
i went with this, because it looks factory (kinda is if you think about it)
and it only cost me $11.32 plus tax

I just took out my air pump. 2 10 mm bolts to get cover off. 3 10mm bolts to get air pump out and 4 10mm bolts to take bracket off. Really easy.
