Transmission Bolt - HOLY #@$%
Guys,
I've completely demolished the drain bolt on my Silverado's transmission pan (15mm)...any ideas on how to get it out without doing damage?...I want to save the threads on the pan so what should I do?.....

First, I stripped the bolt with a socket. Then, I drilled it and tried to use a bolt extractor but it wouldn't budge and finally stripped there too. Then, I used an air hammer/chisel and destroyed 2 edges of the hex. Now I've got a mangled bolt with an approx 1/2 in drilled out of the center. I don't want to ruin the threads...any ideas?....

Take a washer and weld that on to the bolt. Then take another washer, and weld it on. Then take a bigger bolt, and weld it onto the washer. Then get on the nut you welded on square, and back the hole thing out. Ease out's are good if you are working with something on a bench, but for something like your situation, this is your best option, besides dropping the pan.

for the record you won't get that broke lose with anything short of an impact so go to sears get a bolt out kit and see if it will hold otherwise find a welder and weld a nut on top and hit it with the impact. a socket and ratchet is good for rounding the head on those bolts and thats about it impact is the only way to go.
