Default paint license plate part 2

ok so i asked a while back about painting the licence plate and got some feed back and said what da hell and did it. i put 3 coats of black and 3 coats of clear. my ? is, is there anything i can do to clean up the edges on this plate or a way to do it so that the lines are clean on the next plate. i just taped it off. i have never done anything like this before so any feed back will help.
thanks

the plate IS reflective, but numbers are not, so when the light shines on the plate, everything pops up but numbers, so u can read them

I couldnt find anything in the CA vehicle code that says you couldn't paint over the numbers. But that doesnt mean there arent laws pertaining to a plates alteration. Besides, the original numbers are a dark blue, not much of a difference over the black; which to me would barely be a noticalbe difference.

no one ever noticed, until i told them

the lady at the dmv didnt say anything to me either when i turned em in for my new plates. lol

if u painted them pink or orange or something they would notice real quick imo. but blue to black isnt that noticible
