Default considering painting...compressor question

So I'm looking into painting w/ a HVLP gun and have a question about compressors. Most guns I see require 10 - 14 SCFM. Does the compressor need to have this rating to be able to use the gun? I'm looking at a 6HP/33gal one for about $300 but it's rated around 9 SCFM at 40PSI. If the compressor doesn't equal the gun rating does that just mean the you'll have to stop for the tank to refill more often or does this mean that it won't send enough air to the gun and thus the gun will not spray as well as it should? I only plan on painting one car (my junker daily driver) and maybe some touch up on my '02 Tahoe or my T/A further down the road (like when I finally have some painting skills). Any inputs are welcome.
TIA
