Default Ported OEM Heads Versus Aftermarket Heads

I have a few questions guys? \
Can You give me some flow numbers on heads?
AFRs? Stock LS1 and LS6s? Ported LS1 and LS6 Heads? Ported 5.3 Heads? ETP Heads? Dart Heads?

Would porting stock heads make for some good heads and still be cost effective? How much would a good head port cost? What about flow numebrs afterwards? If your on a budget would ported stocker perform with or close to aftermarket heads?

I agree. I had a set of #317's ported by another private member, flowing 321CFM @ .600 now, 307 @ .550. For the money, you really can't beat the 317 if you're large displacement or FI, or the 243's for higher compression.

most people say its not worth it to port the stock LS1 heads however a guy i know said one of his friends had his ported by some shop out in Florida and with a comp 230/236 cam and LS6 intake he was putting down over 450 to the wheels so whoever ported them did an awesome job..however usually people don't get numbers like that from ported stockers

like said previously... if you have the money get yourself some Pat. Perf. 243's before the sale goes... can always get them ported later if your funds are limited at the moment

I have the 317's on one camaro and 241's on another. I would get 243's, but Warhawks are in it's future.

A ported stock head will flow close to what a small runner aftermarket head will. But, the ported head will be 220+ cc in size and the aftermarket head will be 200-205cc. The smaller head of the two with same flow #s will be a better head choice for responce and torque. The bigger the port, the more "lazy" the engine will be down low.
