Default LS6 Cam and 5.3L Heads

I am soon running 5.3L heads and a 2002 LS6 cam. Has anybody run this setup before? Are there any issues on a stock LS1 PCM setup with it?

No issues with the PCM. I am sure that it has been done several times over. Why an LS6 cam with a 5.3 head anyway? Most people run that cam for forced induction. You are going to be raising your CR to about 11.1:1 with those heads and depending on what gaskets you choose.

I would re-think the cam choice IMO.

I figured i'd get asked about that. My setup is not what I would call ideal. It just happens to be how it turned out. I was looking to swap an LS6 into 87 Supra. A guy I know at TPiS told me about a shortblock they were selling with 5k miles on it. I picked that up, but still needed heads. I bought the 5.3L heads because they had 15k on them for $150. According to Clay at TPiS my compression should be about 11.2:1 with factory head gaskets. Raising compression does not bother me. However, I was going to run a TR224 which would bring my dynamic compression to around 8.3:1, versus 8.8:1 on the LS6 cam. My budget keeps shrinking and I want to get this project completed so I can drive it.

So it makes sense to me to use everything I already have if it is possible on pump gas without any major issues.

I forgot to mention. By "stock LS1 PCM setup" I mean a stock LS1 PCM program, so not tuning to it.
