Default What the heck is a DSM?

What exactly is a DSM? A buddy and me are watchin this old video of a lingenfelter vette against a "DSM" and were trying to figure out just how big of a POS it is. If anyone has the specs let me know...mainly, whats D.S.M. stand for?

Diamond Star Motors. It is the name of the car platform used in the Eagle Talon, Mitsubishi Eclispse, and Plymouth Laser. Not all of them are slow either; they're downright nasty when put together well. I know the video you're talking about, and it isn't a Lingenfelter 'Vette (it was the DSM owner's mistake). The owner is a member of the board, and I think that was when the car was cammed (can't remember if it had heads too). The car now runs high 9s with a blower and a shot of nitrous.

The vehicles were produced with the names Eagle Talon, Mitsubishi Eclipse, and Plymouth Laser. DSM cars are assembled in Normal, Illinois. The '94-and-up Mitsubishi Galant is also assembled at the DSM plant in IL; previous Galant's were assembled in Japan. The Eclipse and Galant (since '89) share the same platform.

A low 13 sec. AWD import is not a P.O.S. Also that C5 would but equal lengths on half the members here. (in the video condition, now, it would spank 99% of the members here)

No not stock, They are a 14.8-15 flat from the factory but when built properly can be bad ***

sounds more like it. hey, ive heard when you build a LS1 properly it can run 10's maybe even 9's too....

Heres my POS DSM. cornered in the garage for years now. It was a breaker and only FWD. Sucked at the track buy hauled *** when movin... Stock AWD/FWD ran high 14's. of course AWD took much kinder to mods related to times.

Awww Im still partial to my eclipse. It had stupid probs all the time but... It was a good learing experience for me. I wasnt allowed to get a V8 at the time and wanted a camaro but the lil 4cyl turbo was ok for my parents. Crankwalk is a prob but a lil overrated. They are what they are. It didnt take much to get them into 13's. Just a K&N full exhaust and boost controller.

a friend of mine has a red GSX with a **** ton of stuff done to it, around 21-25psi i believe.

that thing kicks ***, he does have problems here and there, but when your making that much power with a DSM, the problems are almost garaunteed.

anyways, he is on here, maybe he'll post in here if he sees the link i posted in our group thread.

He also has a race prep tune running 30psi on 109octane. It's a neat little car, most definitely NOT rice.

There are at least 2 dsm's in Wilmington NC that would give that yellow vette that runs high 9's a run for its money... in fact if i had to put money on the race i would bet on the DSM. Like everybody said they are nasty when put together right. Here is an example.

John Shepard's DSM

BTW He is in the 7's now with this DSM. He only runs a 8.96 in this video

DSM is just a joint effort by MMC and Chrysler (since chrysler wasnt doing to well in the 80's and 90's to put toghether cars not just the eclipse, lazer and talon. there were cars like the 80's dodge charger. and the starquest (dodge conquest and MMC starion) also the 3000GT and Dodge Stealth but they often are not considered a DSM

and all cars if built right make fast times.... just turbo cars seem to do it with less effort

bleh heres my beater. I have all the bases covered, even a crankwalk avatar. Good for low 12's high 11's on pump.

*edit. one fun fact: it can spin all 4 at once

His latest run is a 7.81 @ 185. Straight meth through (10) 1600cc injectors, filled block. 1.25 is his best 60' but not on his fastest run. the 7.81 run is on 53psi (i think on a 42r) and 100shot. he can still go up another 2 lbs, according to ron shearer.

Who cares man. I can build my moms Honda too. Those cars are dogs from the factory and are not reliable.

i know exactly what video your talkin about, and its not a lingenfelter, its a Doug Rippie Motorsports package, that vette runs 9's now and is blown
