Default Anyone Willing??

to help me figure out what is wrong with my car that has some mechanical knowledge?? I don't want to have to tow it to a shop, and I'm not very mechanically savvy. I'm located in the East Texas area, and would greatly appreciate it. I don't want someone to do all the work, just give me some help. Thanks.

I was driving yesterday, and when I got on the gas, it started spittering & sputtering, and I got off the gas, and it stopped doing it. When I got on the gas again, it did it again, and then died. Now the motor will turn over, but it won't start. It has plenty of gas in it. I washed the motor last weekend, and drove it all week without any problems until Sunday.

the fuel pump should be working. I just changed it out about 2 months ago, new filter also. haven't checked the fuses yet, I'll see what I can eliminate this afternoon when I get home.

It really sounds like your Opti Spark is having problems. If you get the front of the motor really wet it will usually get to the Opti. I don't think the 96 Lt1 had a weep hole in the bottom of the opti. It might not be wet though since you said you drove it for a week. Either way it sounds like the Opti took a shi_. just my .02. Hope it helps some.

well, checked all the fuses, and they are good. the fuel pump is primering as it should when I turn the key on, and when I checked the plug wires, I'm not getting any fire.

It is probably the opti, but on my 94z did the same exact thing. Turned out to be a clogged up cat, and a bad opti. Just get you a broom handle and hollow that bitch out. (the 96's may have 2 dontreally know.)

i think its prolly what everyone else is saying opti, check fuel filter, coil, and some of those other electronics that have to do with with getting spark to the plugs i have my old coil and its good i just got a MSD, if need be ill let you use my old stocker to test your coil see if it is bad (im gonna have to go find it in the storage room first though lol) .... more than likely opti is what it is though

Although everything points to the opti, try the easier to replace parts first, ie ignition coil and coil module. My '94 Vette died and did the exact same thing and it turned out to be a bad coil module.
