cam and gearing down?
Hey guys, I'm thinking of doing a cam down the line and I have a question or two. After 2-3 years or so of EXTREME gear whine with 4.10's (speed inc. told me it was one of the worst they've heard) I was wondering if it would be at all worth it to gear back down when doing something like a 224/228 cam...maybe 112 lsa?
This car is basically street only and daily driven, so I'd like something that acts fairly tame but also performs very well. I daily drive it around town but also spend a LOT of time on the highway so I'd like to compromise but wouldn't mind biasing a little toward top end. Car would also have longtubes by the time the cam was installed and this would all run through a cut-out.
So would I be losing a lot of performance gearing down to something with less whine like stock 3.42s, or would this be possible? How would the car behave on the low end with 4.10s/stock cam vs. stock 3.42s/new cam?
Thanks a bunch

K I can look into those possibly. The problem is that I used GM motives which are supposed to be quiet and ls1 speed told me it wasn't the gear but the way my rear was taking them
Not sure how much validity there is to that statement or if that effects the 3.73 decision?

I've got Motives in both of my f-bodies, both 3.73's and both make noise. I don't hear factory installed 3.73 rears in GM pickups making that kind of noise.
