Pontiac Firebird 1967-2002 - When I think of "Trans Am", camping always comes to mind...

While strolling through the toy department at a nearby Wal-Mart this week, I ran across this 1:87 scale die-cast. I collect '98-'02 Trans Am memorabilia, so this definitely had to be put into the collection :)

Argh...a Trans Am with a HITCH!!...and towing a camper. Someone really had to use their imagination to come up with that one.
Plus...couldn't we get a cooler looking camper!

I've got a hitch. Had one on my 93 T/A also.
Pulls my trailer down the hiway at 80+ with no problems at all.
Don't knock it until ya try it.
If it's set-up properly with the correct tongue weight, it has no adverse effects on the car at all.
Going to WallyWorld this afternoon to find one of those for the collection too, ...

Does that camper have T-tops? Do they leak? I wonder if it has pop-up lights and power windows that break? I am gonna buy me one, and these will be my first posts in the new "Camping" Section on LS1Tech.com:

LMAO @ Johnny
And good lord LOL I can't believe anyone would trailer anything with a sports car. I should post the pic I took of a Dodge Magnum pulling this HHHUUUUUUGGGGGEEEEEEE boat. I mean, the boat was sea-worthy! If anyone wants to see it I'll be happy to show ya heh

Yeah, the camper trailer itself looks a little aged......like maybe a 1950's model. :)
I guess the owner didn't have enough cash to get a decent camper after forking over the cash for the 'bird. :)

Not everyone can afford 2 vehicles. Check out your local autox some time. You'll see everything from f-bodies to dinky no-torque-ricebangers with trailer hitches. It's the only way they can get spare tires, tools, jack, etc. to the track/race with them. I wouldn't do it, but I've had a truck almost as long as I've had my TA, so no need. But some people use thier sports/muscle cars as their daily, year round driver, and that's all they can do.

I wasn't trying to dig at anyone. Heck, my 'bird was my daily driver for 5 years. I just thought it was a little comical to see such an outdated camper trailer behind a fourth-gen 'bird.

A guy I worked with use to haul his vintage boat with his 81 Turbo Trans Am....now that was a sight!
I would never do it myself as I would rather pay $3000 for some old truck to haul whatever than $30 for a trailer hitch to attach to my Trans Am.

Now that I think about it, it might look kinda cool with matching wheels (including those Z-rated tires mentioned previously), and a matching paint job. You could even get crazy and install an uplevel 'bird spoiler (T43) on the roof of it.

Whats that T43 spoiler you speak of?
And I say take the seating area (middle 1/3rd of the car basically) and then attach the front clip and windshield to the back hatch portion for a mini-bird trailer :P Kind of like how people use the bed from pickups. Pop the hood for storage, and then under the rear hatch is a pop-tent lol Hmm... my Photoshop finger is itching now . . .

As far as this whole matching trailer thing....I saw the real thing in Bowling Green at the F-body Gathering several years ago. It was a NBM SS Vert, with a white top, white leather, and white 30th Anniv. wheels, pulling what was once the rear half of another vert, with matching wheels. The front clip mounted straight to the rear half, but had no winshield. It did have the vert top, still operable to boot, but when the top is down, the trailer had a nice clean profile. :thumb:

Wonder if you could legally have the seats in the trailer, and tow it with people in there. Obviously you'd have the seat belts still.

I'm just thinking because look at Motorcycle side-cars. They're attached by nothing more than a weaker piece of metal in comparison to a trailer hitch, AND it's open, AND easily tipable! I could "and" again, but I'll just add that if you wire up the rear/front sensors you could still have airbags lol Do sidecars even have seatbelts?

Should get one of those huge 8-man tents that you can walk around in, and then back the bird up to the opening, pop the trunk and have some music heh (only for awhile, not to toast the battery)
