Spinning tires at 1-2 shift with STS
So, I have the mods in sig. I'm on a stock 10bolt with a built 4l65e and street tires. I also have the eboost 2 boost controller. The car is scarily spinning tires at WOT at the 1 - 2 shift and the car wants to go sideways and fast. I was wandering what the best things for me to do now are. I'd like to not have to buy a rear end right now (I'm saving up for it), especially since this car will not see the track more than 1 or 2 times ever. Can I get away with drag radials on the 10 bolt with a stock stall, or am I on borrowed time looking to snap it? I don't do hard launches or anything like that. Also, I have the Eboost2 which i can program per RPM and Gear. I don't know yet how to do it and how to set it up like that, but is this something I should be doing and can anyone help me out with that? I guess lastly, are there any little things I'm forgetting to do on the car? You can check out my other thread with my dyno sheet on this forums. Thanks ahead of time.

If you have an E-boost 2 you can definitely help your situation out. I would suggest you read that EB2 manual and set each gear for a desired boost level on street tires. If you run drag radials it will help alot, but your probably gonna blowup the stock 10 bolt at some point no matter how careful you are with the rearend. Remember, 10 botls = glass house

your on borrowed time STOCK with the 10bolt. crank the boost down for 1st and second, rais eit in 3rd, or get drag radials and hope you don't break, unless you can afford it.

What sort of tires do you have on there now/how old are they? I think that's the problem more than anything. I have some cheapo tires on my Camaro now that were on it when I bought it, and I've had to get out of it more than once on the 1-2 shift b/c the car tried to jump sideways. And my car is currently bone stock... I'd say get some decent tires on there first and see what it does for ya. If you don't do hard launches from a stop on drag radials they really shouldn't put too much more stress on the rear.

They are 285 KDW's and they are at least half tread life left on them. Regarding the Eboost2, does anyone know how to hook it up to the computer on the camaro? They don't provide a wiring schematic for the camaro in the manual. What DR's would you guys recommend to help out with the traction a bit but not too much to kill my rear?

1. Re-discover "part throttle"
2. You're only going to be able to reduce boost down to the wastegate spring limit... so if you want to customize some low boost settings you're going to need to have a spring at the minimum boost you want to run. The eBoost can help you dial up the boost from there (just how far, I'm not sure).

I have an M6 so I'm probably really screwed! I'm going to granny shift and also engage the rear-end by pushing down the gas pedal slightly (to let it grab), then go WOT. 1st and 2nd will be at PT b/c of no traction...3rd and 4th...bring it on!!...of course using my method above. DAMN YOU GM!!!

I took a couple "cheap" steps to add a bit of life to the stock rear. TA rear cover & ARP carrier studs. I was suprised that the carrier had "shifted" a bit when I put the studs in last year 4K miles later it's still ok. I definetly wouldn't put more $$ than that into the stocker, though.
Have fun with the STS.

Seeing more people with the 10 bolt running pretty good numbers gives me a little more faith in it. Ya, many people like you great421 have their horror stories, but with many people I've personally spoken with still have the 10 bolt r-end and have had a great deal of success with it.
If mine were going to break, it probably would have been at the track last time when they actually prepped the lanes and I ran an 1.9 sec 60' time on street tires. At that point, that was the fastest my car has ever felt... I know, not saying much...but still, it was good for me .
One guy at a performance shop told me that he had run the stock 10 bolt on drag-radials with many many N2O runs and never had any issues. The car now has over 100k miles on it and still runs like a champ. According to him, the secret is to not change out the 3.42 gears...apparently, they're stronger with the 10 bolt than the aftermarket gears you can buy.

i have a M6 on my STS and my car makes over 500 and its still doing fine. but i NEVER do any dig races because i know it'll crumble. my races are done from a roll where the turbo loves to come alive at. plus my cam loves rolls anyways so i do what the car's good at. PS im also on 9.5 MT ET Streets in the back, you'll be fine on the 10 bolt as long as you dont do too many dig races
goodluck and enjoy the STS
