Default Powerglide rwhp/rwtq

I talked to a couple of guys about transmissions today and everyone said a powerglide would be the way to go. What will a basic powerglide handle for power and torque? Which upgrades are smart and where do they take the power level to?

powerglides can handle major power that is what most super comp cars and top dragsters use with 1200hp or so

they can handle waay over that....

they can handle as fast as YOU can probably go unless your doing sub 7's

but for an all out heads up car many people pick a clutch car - jefco, lenco, bruno, liberty and soo on.... on a slick track powerglides are useless with alot of power...

he's also the best in the business.... he controls his wheel speed with the EFI tune up.... most guys arent that good and rely on the clutch

just making the point that they can go REAL fast with a glide, wolfe run a glide too in his LOW 7 second, 200mph drag radial car.

i wish i could afford a liberty setup but that is just way out of the budget for $7500 for just the trans, not to mention a clutch and bell housing and all the fab work.

no experience with the Powerglide.. But if I had an all out drag car.. That'd be my first choice!

If you only want to do it once, get a glide. They have several power levels.

My glide is rated at 2500 HP. Obviously you don't need a $5500 glide yet.

If you can afford it, get the one you need from the trans company you prefer,

but get the dedenbear case, and you can upgrade the internals as you need.

One thing you don't want to be cheap about is drive train. Don't forget,

you pay a bunch more, but you don't have to buy 2 shields. Good luck.

I think the key to the turbo cars is the AMS1000. Thats the key to hooking on a slick track. It allows you to run any boost @ any point in the run. no boost on the line, 4psi 60' out, 15psi 330' and max boost 500' out.

With a 346 I would do a TH-400. The 346" engine doesn't have the broad powerband a stroker would. The TH-400 will give you more average power down the track IMO.
