Oil Cooler

Oil Cooler
I have the provisions for an Oil Cooler like we all do on the side of the Block above the Oil Filter. Does anyone know what will work on that? I got one off of a Turbo Eclipse, but it won't thread in. The threads on the Block are very interesting, nothing likes to adapt to them.

I forgot what the thread is, but you do know that this 'cooler' is only meant to flow coolant from the radiator across a very small section of oil flow path right?
From what Im told the benefits introduced by using that cooler are easily outweighed by the benefits of running a better oil.
If you need to cool the oil, make sure you have the pump to support it and circulate your oil through a front mount heat exchanger. That provision on the block unbolts easily enough to remove it and replace it with a simple oil filter.

I am interested in insalling a factory style one in my 95 T/A what is needed besides oviously the oil cooler for the side of the radiator. will my radiator work with the factory ones?

Your stock radiator is the same with or without the oil cooler, so yes. Check out Lt1info.com for a schematic of the plumbing.

The oil never leaves the motor with the factory cooler provision. That 'block' just circulates coolant through a coil inside it to remove and in some cases add heat to the oil. In most climates, the factory oil cooler is said to add more heat to the oil than it removes.
To circulate the oil out of the motor to an aftermarket oil cooler (B&M supercooler) you'd need a bypass sandwich adapter (keeps oil filter in stock location, thermostatically bypasses some oil for cooling as temps allow) and some nice lines to safely plumb the oil to the cooler. By nice I mean braided stainless and an fittings to ensure a positive leak free seal. Dont want a line coming off or leaking when the life of your motor may depend on it.

It leaves the motor out of the lower hole right above the oil filter. I forgot to put that plug in and it pissed it out all over the ground when we tried to start it. We were just checking the starter, so we didn't start it, but there was a puddle underneath it. That's why I want to use them holes.

You're mixed up on what the factory oil coolers did. You are talking about an auxiliary oil pressure passageway. As you can read on the picture, it was the location for oil pressure sensor on 93's and early 94 model LT1's.

You should most certainly not be using THAT hole for an oil cooler. The factory "oil cooler" (using coolant) is practically not worth the effort. Get a proper oil cooler. Use a plate type cooler like an Earls. Run -10 AN lines. Cost more. Works better. More reliable. If you do something, go the extra step/cost to do it right the first time.
