A quick and easy question for you LT1 guys I have heard time and time again that people's "Opti's" are failing. What exactly is an "Opti"? I just know they were LTx problems only, and apparently I am glad that my car doesn't have it.

Optispark. 
Its our spark distributor. The main problem is if it gets wet, it can fail, and placed behind the water pump, it sometimes gets wet.
And you are correct, LSx engines have individual coil packs iirc?

The actual opti spark is 2 mechanisms in one. There is the sensor part which consists of a disc with slits in it that is attached to the cam and measures the position of the cam, the other part is the distributor that sits in front of the opti sensor.

Correct, its a camshaft position sensor and a distributor in one. Like they said it likes to get oil in it and the BRILLIANT GM engineers put it underneath a waterpump that likes to fail and weep through the weep hole onto it
But alas, MSD has saved us(for those who can afford it). I went through 5 Opti's before having no problems with my MSD. Trending Topics
