Default My gas mileage isn't what it used to be.... Ideas?

Maybe because I have second gear back with my new transmission and clutch system. I notice after driving around with no second gear for a while, that my gas mileage was great... but now it sux..

THe first thing I can think of is my NGK TR5's have been in for 12k miles +.

O2 sensors? What is the GM replacement interval for these? I know they last a long time. My Z28 has 35,000 miles on it and is a DD. I was going to do the O2's and Plugs. See what that does. I seafoamed it a little while ago, but no smoke, so I guess my engine is clean. (I've been using seafoam for a long time)

I was told the NGK TR5's, or any 'performance' plug like that were only good for 10k miles. I'm kinda leary about doing my plugs now b/c of what I heard about the Taylor wires comming apart. My fuel filter was changed about a month ago.

Seafoam in the oil?? Like a motorflush? I have to change my oil anyway. I seafoamed it thru the TB a month ago and it didn't even smoke... Granted, I didn't use much from the spray can. I'll try again... Is Seafoam in the tank better than BG44K??

EDIT: I read up about the engine flush in that great stickey on the top... I can dump 8 ounces in, take it for a ride to Las Cruces and back... then change the oil... That'll work!.. I'll try it... TeH COMPLETE SEAFOAM TREATMENT!!!....

The Car only has 35,000 miles on it.. O2's already??

I doubt 02s as well.

If you do anything with the plugs, check the gap. They won't have been fouled this early unless there is something wicked wrong with your engine, but the gap widens over time. Change the oil and make sure you use a good weight. NM gets cold, so see what cold climate folks run.

Tire pressure, air, fuel and oil filters. Check the PCV for functionality but honestly at 35k that should still be operational, and you would likely get a gas smell if it weren't.

You aren't carrying a bunch of bricks in the back of your car are you? Or maybe 500 lbs of frozen green chile?

2 O2 sensors. THe back ones are just to see if your cats are working. They don't feed info to the computer for mixture.

I drove down here (NM) from Connecticut last August. At BEST I was averaging 26-28MPG. 6th gear turning about 1500-1700rpm.

-Fuel filter is new. I just dumped a can of Seafoam in a fresh tank of gas about 1/2 hour ago.
-I DO need an oil change. I will try to do that this weekend, w/ the Seafoam in the oil as well. I'll check the PCV when I'm in there.
-Tire pressure is 28. I get squirley too easily, so I might lower it back down to 26 so I don't burn up $275 a piece set of tires.
-Air filter was cleaned about 3k miles ago. When I change my oil I usually wipe down the throttle plate, it's allways clean.

No access weight. Abox of 2 12's in the back. But they've allways been there. I've actually done some weight reduction lately. !A/C, !Spare and Jack. (I know, the sub box negates the weight reduction)

I think I might just be getting on it more than I think.

if you are getting 26-28 mpg then that is about right. that is what i am getting on mine as well with a recent tune up that included

plugs
cleaned air filter
new front O2's
and some other mods and i was getting right at 27. My best ever was almost 30 with a wicked tail wind on a trip.

That had to be 65 mph all the way up eh, lol.

If you runnin 75-80 which is quite easy, even on my stocker car. It runs like 2k.

I have a bone *** stock car with 31k on it, not sure if the fuel filter is stock but if I beat on it and not doing much highway it will do 16-18 mpg. WHen I get my cold air and cat back on it im sure it'll gain 2-3 mpg.

On friday i got the check guage light on for the gas, I had like 210 on the trip and when I filled it, it was close to 13 gallons in the tank to fill it.

Tonight driving alot on 6th, no much beating I hit 210 and I have 1/4 left in the tank vs none. My guage seems to move fairly even, as opposed to my 94's gas guage

Are you still on the stock thermostat/fan settings?? Still on stock gears? Not using xx-50 weight oil, are you?? I have an M6 with 4.10s and 160 stat/fan settings, bolt ons (except for NO headers/ory), and I get 29-32 mpg on the highway (at a steady 65) with Amsoil 5W-40.
