Forgive me for this Q...
Have ANY of you had any trouble with the newest mustangs? I have many friends trying to convert me, and I just dont feel it. I dont really hate mustangs, I just hate how underpowered they are unless its a Cobra. My friends are trying to convince me that its all changed with the new 3V 4.6 300hp models...Im still not really buying it...so honestly...do they hold a candle to LSX cars?...Feel free to smack me around....its apparently what I need right now...

Hopefully you are kidding. We just traded in our 2006 Mustang GT because it was so slow. Here is a comparison, since I drove both cars in similar weather:
1999 Camaro SS, 100% stock, stock tires = 12.85 @ 104 mph
2006 Mustang GT, 100% stock, stock tires = 14.10 @ 99 mph
Both cars were manuals. The Mustang weighed about 200 lbs more, and wouldn't go faster than 99 mph even while powershifting.
Mustangs are nice looking cars, but the 4.6L engine just sucks.

LOL...Yea...Im affraid I was being serious, and your reply was about what I was expecting. I just havent driven one, and really dont see any around here, so I didnt know. I just kind of assume that 4.6 is never gonna stack up to 5.7....why dont they figure their **** out?

I am a member on the mustang forum and there appears to be some fast ones (low 13's@103+) and some slow ones, like 9-ball's. I dont know what is going on really. One of the faster one's is owned by an LT1 owner on the mustang forum and he is still LSx faithful, just likes the mustang too, so its not a BS thing. I dont know what is up with it.

There is no denying the huge aftermarket for mustangs, but I just dont want to buy into something thats going to cost me alot more to make the same speed as an LSX car. Thats the nail in the coffin if you ask me, not only do the 4.6s have less power to start with, they are just as if not more pricey to build up. Its a bad deal. I just dont know.

I heard some rumors of longevity issues with the supercharged cobras....is there any truth to that do you guys think? I mean, I know those cars are bad as hell, but I dont want to be rebuilding a DOHC 4.6 with under 100,000...

All you have to do is go test drive one to see the difference. Yes the mustangs are alot better then previous. but they still suck. a 98 z28 will beat a 2006 mustang....8 years later and mustangs still arent any faster?? what the hell. 4.6's suck.

lol, the proof was in the pudding for me. I used to work at an all Ford based company(we had a contract to PDI, clean, gas up and deliver Ford Vehicles to the Oakville Plant). And since we do this, we get only top end cars for the Ford Execs, anyways when the 05s first came out everyone(even that worked there) were going bananas over them, Im like, guys, this thing is slow as *****, my 99! TA will own this thing! Anyways I was on my way to deliver it to Ford(05 GT M5 Fully loaded incl full stereo) and I got my *** handed to me by an LT1 camaro(no idea on the car, lol, i was still on the clock and didnt have time for ??!) Anyways, it was slow....so very very slow, the terminators we got were a different story, we even got in a hand made navigator and the first T-Bird in Canada...it was a cool job, too bad it wasnt GM!

I have been thinking about waiting for the new Camaro, but with my income, I think I would be stuck in a situation where the payment chained me from really being able to mod anything (Been here before). Granted, it would be cool stock for a while, we all know how that one goes. I should probably just try to find an M6 WS6 or SS. I really enjoyed my LT1 Z28, but I needed some more...and I think that is exactly where the LS1 cars come in. I kind of knew the answer here before I posted, but I was curious if I might get any suprises. Even some guys on Mustang sites have told me that they love their new stangs, but at best, they can hold their own in the middle ground...but off the line, or on the top end, its all over for them. I guess that is all I need to know. From the mustang site.."I'm putting down 305rwhp and 316 trq. I have JLT CAI, Steeda UD pulleys, BBK 62mm throttle body, shaker hood scoop(more for looks, but I'm sure a little air makes it into the CAI) MAC long tube headers and prochamber, Flowmaster American Thunder axle back exhaust, FFRP 4:10 gears, and a SCT Xcal-2 93 tune by DTP.
I to was looking for bigger numbers, but all the bolt on stuff together does not really add that much, if you want big numbers you need to spend big $$$ and not all engines are exactly the same, some are just stronger and some accept mods better. I blame that on all the computerized stuff".....Too many mods for the numbers in my opinion.

I have to admit it, I do kind of like the new stangs. My wife wants one next summer. I'm trying to talk her into a GTO instead, but she's not going for it. I've looked at some of the mustang mags, and there are some fast ones out there with superchargers on them, but I still prefer LSx's.

a buddy of mine was kinda deflated whenever he was talking to me the other night. he bought an 06 GT and has done intake up to the manifold, and headers back on the exhaust, had it tuned by someone who is supposedly very good at it, he dynoed 340hp/335tq, he was pumped then asked me what i dynoed. my dyno was on my stock car and it dynoed 318/325. that really kind of let him down, yet it was satisfying to me.
