Default Sts kit

well i want to purchase there kit for an lt1 car. what other items should i purchase when i get there kit, or would i be fine with just the kit.

Or should i just go with a procharger set up

The STS turbo is pretty much junk IMO. You would be better off going with a larger front mount turbo. Or if nothing else, my personal experience is that the Procharger kits give you some outstanding power levels as well.

Personally, i don't like the idea of a rear mounted turbo. But then again, that's just my view.

i say go for it if you're on a budget, but if you can let some money go then go front mount turbo or procharger.

bang for buck i would go STS. i made decent number my 1st dyno on stock motor with LT and ORY 472/501 is decent in my eyes

$ is what it really comes down to. Sure STS kit is cheep, but IMO it's cheep for a reason (not high quality IMO, and doesn't make close to the power a front mount, or decent supercharger will).

To make either happen this is pretty much what you are looking at $ wise;

Supercharged car> $12,000 or more depending on quality of parts used
Turbo car> add an additional $7,000 on top of the supercharged car price

I have an STS kit on my LS1 87 IROC and I think its a pretty sweet setup maybe not as nice as a front mount setup but I make plenty of power on just 5PSI. DYNOED 463 HP to the wheels.

Just my 2 cents but I'd rather have Turbo car over any Supercharger car anyday.

With either system, you will want a 255 lph fuel pump, 42 lb injectors, and a boost gauge. That's for starters, you might also want to upgrade the plug wires and put in new plugs. While you are changing the injectors, you might want to go ahead and replace the fuel pressure regulator just because it will be right there in your hands. And a tune is a must.
I also got the upgraded turbo and the electronic boost controller switch, and I think they were a worthwhile expense.

to hell wiht everyone that says rear mounts are junk.. i rode in a sts 4.8 TRUCK!!! and it would flat git it for a bit ole truck.
I would go with new fuel pump, injectors, and a real tune. Those things with the sts and your in buisness.

Said 4x4 xcab truck does hapen to run low 13's with a 5500lbs+ race weight

Hell, there's even one 4x4 xcab with a stock 6l, stock convertered 4l80, stock tires, running mid 11's

I've always liked the STS systems. My friend has a shop that sells/installs them. I've seen and ridden in 3 silverados and two F-bodies he did that were amazing with very little boost. At 5 psi we went from 251 rwhp to 358 in a silverado truck with 110,000 miles on it with no other mods. The other truck was not dynoed at the time I rode in it but it was installed with the methanol kit. Again the performance was awesome. The trans am had a 12 bolt and other suspension mods with the STS kit. It was an M6. I can't remember the exact numbers on it but the gain was around 110rwhp at or around 5 psi. The white camaro I rode in had gained about the same but was closer to stock. These were all LSx based engines so I don't know what your LT1 would gain but I know you'd like the performance. Start basic and work your way up. I've always liked turbos way better than SC's due to a turbos better efficiency for making power. STS kits are NOT junk. Alot of R&D went into the development before they released it. Of course turbo purists hate on it because it's different than the norm. That's fine...but STS is a proven system that works well and can be upgraded as time goes on and money allows. Definetely a nice intro to forced induction.

dont be swayed by people like this guy, i have the sts kit and i wouldnt put a prochager on if you gave me one.
the turbo kit intstalled with fuel upgrade and such will run you about the same as the supercharger. but we dont have belt issues, an annoying whine at idle, it drives like a normal car until you put your foot in it and then it comes alive. your turbo kit also gives you room to grow, there are several people on this site making 650+ rwhp on the sts kit with upgrade on turbo and such. people who bash on the kick probably havent had the opportunity to ride in a car with one. it is awesome -- go for it you will not regret it

I have an STS kit and I love it. My car is only running the 8.7lb spring and I can smoke almost anything I come across. With only around 580whp I should be running really low 11's possible high 10's. I've only ran it in the 1/8 and I'm doing between 7.1 and 7.4 at 100mph-102mph.

I simply stated my opinion based on my experiences with the STS. I HAVE ridden in 3 different vehicles with the STS system, and personally seen the performance levels of 3 more. This doesn't make me an expert, but I do know a thing or two about them, and how they compare to a D1SC, T-Trim, or large front mounted Turbo. SC and Turbo are obviosly different systems, and both have their pros and cons. Yes, supercharges are belt driven. However I have maxed out my D1SC and never had the belt slip at all. Turbo's generate a great deal more heat than a SC, which can also be an issue. The whine at idle is not found in every supercharger, and although I have it in mine, I love the sound! Also, if set up properly, a supercharged car will do the exact same thing as a turbo car if driven normally. It will drive normally until you put your foot into it and make boost. If asked which was the superior system between SC and a Turbo, I would without say "a Turbo", however, when asked which was better between a SC and a STS turbo, I would say a SC. The STS may be ideal if you are looking for moderate power gains, at a cheep price, and to keep your car looking like a sleeper car. The bad thing is, IMO from what I have personally seen, the STS is only good for moderate gains, and if you want large gains, you are better off going with a large SC, or a large front mount Turbo instead, not to mention I don't think the STS sytem is a high quality turbo system to start out with. Either will cost you more than the STS though, so how much $ you are looking to spend also plays a factor.
