Why Sticky Tires Are Necessary
Well, I swapped out my Nittos for KDWS a couple of weeks ago because of the approach of winter. Today I was driving by our empty church parking lot and saw my daughter's Grand Am sitting there with another Grand Am next to it and a guy working on her driver's door. So I whipped in there, and he saw me coming and hopped into his car. I tried to block him, and stopped, but he got around me and sped off. I whipped the car around and got on it (nowhere near WOT) and next thing I know I'm doing donuts in a cloud of smoke while he speeds away.
This car is useless without sticky tires ... like the time last winter some guy in a Taurus SHO was challenging me on the street and I could do nothing ... anything approaching 1/4 throttle and I'm spinning. It's going to be a long hard road till next spring ... Sorry - just had to get it off my chest.

I don;t like the sounds of this. I was planning on getting a set of KDW soon, becuase I heard they were stickier tires. I'm debating between Nittos and thew KDW.... It's really that much of a difference?

It sounds like he was trying to steal something, just the mention of two grand am's sounds like enough to assume that. Too bad your car isn't more like the night rider, then you would've owned him.

I've had KDWS and KDW tires.
KDWS S means snow, and it will "work" in snow, but albeit not well. I got caught in a freak snowstorm with them on and found myself trying to drive in a foot of snow, but I couldn't make my own lines too well in the snow and was a good 10-15 miles slower than traffic could muster.
KDW will NOT work in cold weather, let alone snow. A combination of wet and temps hovering under 40F and it's pretty much a crap shoot on launching your car from a stop or navigating a right or left turn at normal speeds. Even in dry cold weather, I could easilly break traction at the worst times in normal driving. I didn't feel safe at all driving my car the few times I drove it in those conditions.
If you really want to drive in winter, a set of snow tires minus sized (225/60/16, or 215/65/16) will work well. Get a extra set of rims, it's worth it in the long run if you do drive in winter.

Scenario is a factor. Saying things like "Drivers fualt, and unless there was snow..." Think about the situation. It's not like he was carefully navigating through the fabeled "shopping cart slolem" at your local Walmart. He was wanting to catch a guy breaking in.

well no offense, but you need to learn how to handle the power. Of course if you mat it, you will do nothing but spin the tires man, learn how to keep it on the edge of traction and you will do better to catch much slower cars. If it erupts nto a smoky burnout, it's time to ease off the gas a bit, lol

I've never had KDWS though.
