Default Mainshaft Bearing Issues

While disassembling my '00 T56 for an overhaul I found that the large tapered bearing that sits on 1st gear just pulled off by hand!!!

It looks like the inner race of the bearing may have been spinning on the shaft but its not galded or blued or black or anything like that.

There were no abnormal vibrations or noises that I noticed. I have a new bearing but haven't been home yet to see if it is any tighter.

Could this possibly be ok to run if the new bearing isn't any tighter or should I definitely replace the mainshaft? I can't imagine that being normal. But like I said it doesn't look like the bearing was spinning too bad on the shaft or the inner race/shaft area should be discolored.

Any advise from LS1Joe or anyone else would be greatly appreciated!!!

Chad

The bearing is suppose to come off by hand. It is not pressed on. This is completely normal for the bearing to do that. Hope it helps.

Thanks,
Amber
