Should I buy/ title question

Should I buy/ title question
In one of the local papers I found a 95 Z28 with a 2000 ls1 engine/auto tranny swapped in. 120k on body and 60k on engine/tranny swap. Swap was done profesionally and it has complete leather interior. The guy only wants $1500 for it however he does not have the title. I would be interested in making this primerally drag car but would definantly want it to be street legal which would mean I would need a title. How would one go about getting a title for this car and do you think its worth it?
Thx

That might be more headach than its worth. You would have to go to your DMV and do a title search of the VIN. I don't know what it would cost, depends on your state and it can be time very consuming. Obviously if you buy the car and the 'rightful' owner shows up you'd be SOL. $1500 sound like the person wants to get out a sticky situation. I'd stay away IMHO.

Around here you can get a bonded title, or have a mechanic buddy put a mechanic's lein on it.
Bonded titles cost about $300-$400. Not sure about mech leins. But it can be done.
Until it is done, though, the car's not technically yours. Should the title holder decide they want it back... it's legally theirs.

its not that big of a deal you just call your court house and tell them you need a builders title...
...its the same as restoring a muscle car, or building a kit car.

If you know somebody with an impound yard they can impound it and you could get a title that way.
I just had to get title for an old convertable, I used broadway titles out of Alabama that process takes 3 months, I dont think they do cars after 92 but it wont hurt to call them and see if they know of a way or company to get the title for yours.

Oh and for 1500 I would definatly buy it along as you arent in a rush to it drive. Like others said you can get you money back in parts if you choose not to mess with it. But I would get the vin and have the dmv run it to make sure its not stolen.
