Default A/C Compressor on 2nd Gen Camaro

Does anyone know if the stock LS a/c compressor will fit on a LS motor in a 2nd generation camaro subframe? It looks to me like the compressor won't fit, due to conflicts with the motor mounts. Has anyone tried it? If not, who makes mounting brackets to move the compressor up on the side of the motor? Thanks,

Default ac compressor

I had to notch the engine crossmember to fit the stock f body accessories. I am not sure on the other accessories but I know that you have to do this with the f body ones. Also most adapter plates that use the stock small block frame mounts will not work with the stock f body ac compreesor location. Hope this helps, Josh

Default a/c Mounts

Thanks for the reply. Did you use the adapter plates and the stock motor mounts when you notched your crossmember? Do you have any pictures? It sounds like you are had the exact problem I foresee. Thanks again for your help.

Default ac

Check out the pics. The link is in my sig. I hope you can see what i did. I used the stock 00 engine mount stands and cut a big section off the stands and welded a plate to them that I welded to the frame. If you have any question let me know. Josh

Josh,
Thanks for the pictures. I saw one of your previous threads and thought your car looked sharp, reminds me of my first car, a '70 1/2 Camaro, wish I had it back (if it wasn't so rusty). Your picture looks exactly like I think mine will / would look like to mount the a/c compressor in the stock location.

Again, thanks for the picture.

Default frame notch

Hey Marc, What size plate did you use to fill the hole for the ac compressor? Mine is an open hole. I like the brp mounts also. It looks nice. I would have went that route if I would have known about it at the time. Mizzouri, if you dont want to run the ac dont put a belt on it and take off the bracket, am I missing your question, if I am please explain. Josh

On an LSx engine the a/c compressor uses a different belt and crank pulley from everything else. So if you remove the A/C it does not disturb the belt at all, you just toss the A/C belt and the main serpentine belt is still routed the same as it was from the factory.

Josh,
Hello, I did not take any measurements when I was there. I'll see if I can get some measurements but I won't be back down to check on the car for a couple of weeks

Default plate

I meant thickness. If you know it off hand. I am thinking about using 5/16" and wanted to know what you used. Thanks, Josh
