Default 1000rwhp

I just got done building my motor. Its a 93 LT1 Solid Roller 385ci with Eagle 4340 Crank, Eage H Beams, Diamond -39cc heads, Total Seal Ap Rings, LE3's, Arp Head studs etc etc.. I am going to purchase the forced inductions turbo kit if they have a turbo big enough that will make 1000rwhp and work with the kit.. What size turbo would I need for 1000rwhp? I would like to run 20-24psi at the track and ruffly 12psi on the street maybe a little less.. Ill have the supporting fuel system etc.. Just curious if a T76 with a 80mm upgrade wheel could do it because it has a 1200 peak hp or would I need to go to a T88?

First off, I think you'll have head gasket problems with stock castings and 20+ psi. I know LJ had alot of trouble at 12 psi even on stock castings. Most high boost guys go with AFR's for the thicker decks.

As for the turbo, you're going to have alot of problems fitting anything bigger than a T76GTS in the engine bay. The power ratings of the turbo's are fwhp numbers not rwhp. The T76GTS is rated for 1100 - 1150 rwhp. One LT1 made 987 rwhp with one at 24 psi boost through an M6, and a Supra broke 1000 rwhp with it. A more typical 385 cid combo might make 850 rwhp through an M6 at 20+ psi. If it's an auto, it'll be tough getting over 800 rwhp with it.

If that's not enough for you, you need to look at the new S series or a T88. They'll make more power, but are significantly larger than the 76GTS and absolutely require a 3.5" downpipe, which won't come with your PTS kit.

Ok say if I were to have the kit fabricated to a 3.5inch dp and got the kit to work with a t88.. Would the power that I want be there? As for head gaskets I am going to run comectics.. Everyone I know that runs them with stock castings haven't had any problems... Ill check into it though..

1000 rwhp with an auto or a stick?

On a stick, with a T76, it would be tough but possible with even a 3" downpipe. With a T88 and 3.5" downpipe, it would still be tough (lots of 800-900 rwhp T88 combo's out there) but more likely.

What kind of boost are they running? If they made 985rwhp on at T76 at 24psi an 88 should make it a little easier huh at the same amount of boost..

I don't remember - you'll have to do a search.

The most I've heard of from a T88 (well, a mod'ed T88) is Brent's car on turbomustangs.com. He made 1177 rwhp on a 302, but he's not scared of 30 psi either.
